4 out of 5 stars Great help for tracking workout & travel   June 21, 2008
I use this watch primarily for inline skating. It is really good and once you get the latest version of the training center, it is good value and gives you good information.
You can upload the routes you go to Google Earth, which is cool, but it slows the loading of Google Earth down sooo much, it is unbearable.
Battery life is about 10 hours, which I find way to little - I would pay more for better batteries. (reason for losing 1 star)
I have som,e problems with the altitude meter - Often I stand at a beach and it says I am 7 meters below water. Maybe the accuracy is +/- 10 meters, which is then OK for measuring speed, but not when tracking activities along a coast or on water.
I use the watch all over the world to keep track of where I travel, and it works fine for this also. (especially useful when crossing a desert)
And I have used the watch in Helicopters and airplanes, and it records all movements, routes, and speeds fine.
I don't have problems with losing satellite connection when in a forest or a city.
If I should wish something from Garmin, it would be:
- Better battery life
- Water proof for Scuba/snorkel

5 out of 5 stars love it, love it, love it   June 20, 2008
Very easy to use. Motivating. Increased my speed and distance in a short period of time. Now I hate to run without it.

4 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect   June 17, 2008
I upgraded to the Garmin 205 after my faithful (but archaic) Garmin 201 became unreliable. I use the 205 strictly for running, so I can't comment on the biking functions. I really like this product, except for one fairly significant shortcoming (see below).

On the plus side, the 205 is much more ergonomic that the older 201. It fits more like a wristwatch, and doesn't look "geeky" like the 201. More importantly, the 205 works a lot better than the 201. It captures satellites much more quickly when you start it up, and it doesn't seem to lose signal nearly as much as the older model. They've also made the buttons larger, and placed the "start/stop" and "Lap/Reset" buttons on the front of the unit so that they're much easier to use. The menus and screens are very similar to the previous model, so I felt comfortable with the 205 from the beginning. It's obvious that the folks at Garmin spent a lot of time listening to runners, and created a product that does what it's supposed to do, and is easy to use as well.

My major complaint about the 205 is the alert "beep". I have my 205 set to beep every 0.5 miles of running distance, however the sound is so weak, that I barely hear it less that 50% of the time. I run by myself in a quiet neighborhood, but I still can't hear the alert even when I'm expecting it. I know many other runners who have the Garmin 205, and they universally have the same complaint. It's obvious that Garmin put a lot of effort into refining this product, much to the better. It's surprising that no one seemed to notice that the alert sound was much too weak for normal use.

I also know of some runners who have had problems with the electrical contacts on the back of the unit. Apparently the electrodes can become corroded from the normal sweat of the running, and will no longer work with the charger. A friend of mine had to have his 205 replaced twice because of this problem. I notice that the instruction booklet advices you to make sure that the electrodes are absolutely clean and dry before you charge the unit. I haven't had any of these problems in the brief time I've owned the unit, so maybe they fixed the problem.

I summary, I would strongly recommend this product. If you're a serious runner, this is a "must have".

4 out of 5 stars Love it, but...   June 2, 2008
Love how quickly it starts up and find satellites. Seems very accurate and keeps a signal much better than the 201. However, it does not do interval training the way I'd like to see it. You can set the interval OK, but it's not easy to get it to show the mileage while doing interval training. I end up using 205 for mileage, pace, etc. and my old watch to do my intervals, i.e. 3 and 1(s).

4 out of 5 stars Good product   May 31, 2008
I purchased this for my wife and she loves it. The only negative that she has pointed out is the size of the watch - she thinks it's a little big.

This watch can track and monitor where she runs (downloads to a map), distance run, time it took to run it, etc. to make it easier for 3 mile runs. It can even keep pace for her.

I have never used it so everything I have written hear is from my wife. She would recommend it.
