| Customer Reviews:
Dissatisfied May 19, 2008 I have had my Forerunner for 2 years and it has worked about 20% of the time. I sent it back after trying to get the tech support to help. They had me send it in and they said they sent a new one back as a replacement. I was in the second mile of the Louisville 1/2 marathon and it quit again. Since then I have tried to power it up and nothing. Charger shows it is powered, tryed the methods of unlocking provided in the handbook and still nothing. Bought a Nike+ last night for my iPod and it worked wonderfully this morning.
Great Running/Training Watch May 19, 2008 I was looking for a training device for a marathon I was training for. I had seen the big, bulky GPS watches out there, but I bought this one as it was kind of in the middle of the price range for these watches and it had all the features I wanted. It's not too big and it keeps satellite signal very well, even when I'm inside my house near a window.
I like the ability to have a digital training buddy who will help you pace your runs, and the software that's included with the watch lets you download your course and run stats and keep them on your computer for later review. I also found that I can download my runs directly from the device into Google Earth and save and share them through that program.
This really is an excellent watch that's great for a person looking to have a good training and tracking device for their runs.
Battery issues at 2 months old May 17, 2008 I got this for my birthday mid-March 2008. It's now mid-May. The Forerunner has ceased powering on if it is off the charger. All indications seem that it is working normal so I can only assume this is a battery issue. I updated the firmware as Garmin suggested and tried the manual reset per the Garmin website... it still doesn't power on without being connected to the computer/charger. I'm in the process of sending it back to Garmin for replacement. This is very disappointing because I was making great strides with my running due to it's very detailed running display. A real letdown. Other reviews indicate the same malfunction and when replaced, the replacement unit malfunctioned soon as well. Bummed!
Garmin Forerunner 205 May 11, 2008 I love this product. It was easy out of the box. Takes almost no time to acquire the satillites. This is a definite must for any type runner. The software that comes with it is a little lacking, but you can download some other products for free that are better. That is the only reason that I gave it a 4 star rating...otherwise it's a 5!
Excellent Product for the money May 10, 2008 I bought this product for my wife but we ended up stealing it from each other over and over again because it works so well. Neither of us use the software but the product-- the GPS unit-- is excellent. It usually acquires satellites in under a minute, although with heavy cloud cover this can take longer. For best results, turn it on and set it down on the roof of your car or somewhere else flat so it can acquire a signal while you stretch. The buttons are well-thought out, and the screen is easy to read, even in a light rain or while sprinting. I have only lost signal or experienced inaccuracy when running underneath large power lines, and that is only in one area near where I live.
My wife and I have used this watch in most of the Eastern USA (from New Hampshire to Florida), as well as Iraq and South Korea. The satellite reception is excellent, and for under $300, it is impossible to find a product that performs as well. Now that we can get one for around $150, we will both own one so we can each keep track of our separate pace and mileages.
Great product, anyone who runs/walks/bikes more than once a week should own one.
