1 out of 5 stars Understand what you're buying; I didn't   June 13, 2008

I was looking for a GPS to generate waypoints for a flying application, gathering them first on the ground. I also hoped to use the device as a car navigator. This device, which seems to work ok, for what it is. Does not come with any maps (street, marine, topo, or aviation) it does not talk and is useless in the car without maps.
I called Garmin for advice before buying this and they passed me from one department to another. Nobody knew anything about the GPSMap series, to speak of. When I bought street maps and they wouldn't load, the phone wait was 40 minutes so I sent an e-mail which has not been answered for a week now.

4 out of 5 stars great gps for geocaching   May 31, 2008

We bought this gps for use hiking and geocaching. We are very happy with its satelite signal, even under heavy tree cover. The only thing we wish we could get is some kind of case for it to be in and still be used without removing it. Great GPS

5 out of 5 stars Great bang for the buck   May 20, 2008

I'm an ardent geocacher. This unit was an upgrade for me from my Etrex Legend, and it was an excellent choice. The screen is very legible and I really appreciate the extra sensitivity and ability to receive signals under tree cover.

Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars A great thing to have   May 15, 2008

5 out of 5 stars As good as it gets   May 5, 2008

After many months of study, I decided on the 76CSx. I cannot find a problem with is after one month of 3 day weekends geocaching. I can put more waypoints in it than the streetpilot in the car. After finding a cache I can press found and it goes to the calendar so I can find them easily when I get home to do logs. I am using 2500mAH energizer batteries in it and because I discharge them completely before recharging, they last 24 hours with out the backlight. I bought the car cigarette lighter adapter for it but only use it on long trips. It has a better routing engine than the streetpilot 2620 consistently going the way I would go. I cant think of any problem with it as yet. You get used to the buttons at the top which I have no problem with. I think this is as good as it gets
