4 out of 5 stars Does everything I wanted   September 30, 2008
I wanted to be able to get my mileage from my trail runs, and also heart rate information from my runs for training purposes. I like the product, it give me everything I wanted. The only drawback is the www.motionbased.com link that you can use free as part of this, only gives you access to the last 10 activities on your list. To see all your activities in this interface is to pay a costly monthly, or yearly fee. I really would like a more in depth software (running log) that incorporates the data from the Garmin, shoe mileage, report capabilities etc. that I only have to pay for one time (I'm a tight scotsman, and hate to pay monthly).

I think it's great. I'm training for a marathon and haven't even dived into all of the bells and whistles, but so far, it seems pretty accurate. The heart rate monitor works well too.

5 out of 5 stars Great Unit - but don't try to swim with it!!!   September 24, 2008
I love my forerunner 305 for skiing, on the bicycle, for skating and for running - but it just broke because i jumped into the sea after a run and the unit immediately failed. The good thing is, it is not as expensive as it once was, so i am ordering a new one right away!

Very neat device. Some functions are very easy to use. Others are extremely complicated. In some areas, it seems that engineers ran wild with complicated procedures.I was not able to get the Motion program installed. The map function either does not work or I can't figure out how to use it.

However, I like it and would recommend it. I can't wait to get home from my exercise and download the information on my computer.

Also have a 301. Like: Greater number of read outs, greater flexibility of setup, greater ease of data upload, better heart rate monitor. Dislike: Band isn't as comfortable, 301 history easier to read. Suppose to be more sensitive GPS, but don't really see it.
