1 out of 5 stars Original design is defective, RMA yourself a new one (free if still under warranty)   October 19, 2006

I called Garmin tech support yesterday (10/17), did wait about 15 minutes to speak to someone. I called in the morning so it wasn't a long wait. Since my nuvi is still under warranty (1 year warranty) I requested a RMA for a replacement suction cup mount. The tech asked how it had failed -- mine also had melted to the windshield so I had to rip it off -- and responded like he was very familiar with the problem. He also mentioned the rubber material of the original design was defective and that they had a new rubber material design and would send me a new one. I didn't have to pay for it and should get here in 7-10 days.

2 out of 5 stars You'll need more than one!   October 7, 2006
After reading Bill from New Jersey's posting, I tried for several days to get Garmin on the phone -- all with no success! I waited and waited on hold, and -- on four occasions -- I was essentially told that since they "were experiencing unusually high volume of calls," I needed to call back and then I was disconnected. On another occasion, I admittedly gave up after over an hour on hold. Having spent almost a thousand on the Nuvi and having the first suction mount become unusable after a half dozen moves in three months, I broke down and bought three more mounts so that I could have one in each car. I'd think long and hard before I bought another Garmin product, however!

2 out of 5 stars Glued on - remove whenever not in use or else...   October 3, 2006

The bracket works great, holds the GPS in lots of positions, BUT it WILL GLUE ITSELF to the windshield if left on in a hot car too long, as others have pointed out, too. This is really too bad, because the thing is not cheap to have to replace for no other reason.

3 out of 5 stars A decent product   September 17, 2006

The suction cup mount for the Garmin Nuvi's is a decent device. It holds a great suction and doesn't fall off repeatedly like some other suction cup devices I have used in the past. However, I did run into some issues where the suction cup was permanently stuck on the windshield if it was left on the window for too long of a period. The first time I ran into this problem was when the device was on the windshield for about three weeks, but I was able to get it off by simply slipping a tooth pick under the rubber and breaking the air seal. The second time I took it off, it was on the window for less than a week, but it very hot weather and some of the rubber had melted to the glass when I tried to remove it.

I guess the best thing to do is to remove the suction cup mount every time your done using the Garmin Nuvi for the day. This will prevent it from getting stuck to the windsheild and possibly melting to it if it has been left on it too long.

5 out of 5 stars No issues yet   August 26, 2006

I think the other reviewers that are experiencing problems with their mount should definitely contact Garmin and see if they can get a replacement, it sounds like a bad rubber run. I've had mine for 4 months, in 40 degree cold and 110+ heat, and have experienced no issue with it. It does what it's supposed to do, and I would expect no less, considering it's holding an $800+ device.
