DO NOT BUY- September 18, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have gone through 2 of these suction mounts and need to find an alternative to mounting my Nuvi 350. I live in Ohio where it's sunny about a dozen days a year and the cheap rubber that the suction is made of melts to the windshield. Forget trying to move device to other car with suction mount. You have to literally rip the suction off the windshield. Then it's completely useless. Worked great, until I wanted to use it somewhere else. You might as well glue it to your windshield, or not use the suction mount when temp is over 60 degrees.
Great Suction Cup Mount August 31, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have a Nuvi 360 and the Nuvi namebrand suction cup window mount I ordered is identical to the OEM (Original Equpment) that came with my original unit. The OEM suction cup never had a good full circumference suction on my windshield in that only about 1/8" of the rubber made contact with the glass. However the replacement I ordered has a much better 1/4" contact; don't why this is since it is identical of the OEM. After about 1 year, the OEM mount also left literally pieces of rubber stuck to the glass when I tried to unmount it (to put in another car), making it useless since it broke the integrity of it's suction ability. We'll have to see if the replacement I'm using will have the same problem...
used as intended....it works fine. August 25, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The suction cup mount is a 'TEMPORARY' mount. I've had my garmin for seven months; as far as the suction mount, it seems to work fine when I've used it in rental cars and in my friends cars. BUT: Clean it with water ONLY (and I'm guessing clean the windshield with water in the section you will be adhering the suction cup too as well). Anything else may change the chemical structure of the suction cup, I'm guessing what others may have experienced, and cause it to deteriorate. Take the mount off of the windshield when you're not using it and put it someplace out of direct sunlight. Leaving it in the sun is apparently just asking for trouble. If you want to leave a mount on the windshield permanently, get the dashboard mount with the permanent adhesive disk, use some acetone to remove the white 'Garmin' logo and locking info and it won't be very obvious what the oval black disk is for. Also, if you have an SUV with a visor, put the mount under the visored section of the windsheild where it doesn't get too hot. As far as the GPS nuvi unit, it's fantastic.
Call Garmin and get a new one August 16, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
If yours sticks to your windshield and self destructs when you try and take it off call Garmin and request a new one. They sent me one with the improved suction cup under warranty. Examining the two side by side reveals a definite change in the material they are using for the suction cup. Hopefully this fixes the problem. So far so good one week on the windshield in 90+ heat and came right off when I released suction. This mount is great otherwise. Very flexible and holds the unit securely.
Piece-o-junk August 6, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Believe what you have read; this thing doesn't work very well. It does stick great for about a week and then, one day, you will find your GPS unit sitting on the floor of the car with a giant black circle of rubber particles on your windshield. When you look at the suction cup, you will see a bunch of holes where the rubber particles (on your windshield) used to be.
The only thing that works for a while on windshield is a silicone rubber suction cup and even those go bad over time. At least with those, however, they don't melt all over your windshield. This thing is some kind of black rubbery stuff that just doesn't last.
