Don't bother July 29, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This mount works great...as long as you don't try to move it from car to car. It's advertised as a portable mount but if you move it between cars 5 or 10 times it will no longer work. Part of the suction cup says on your window each time it's removed. The resulting pitting on the cup causes it to no longer be able to hold its suction rendering it unusable. If you buy this thing, leave it in one car and buy one for each of your other cars. If you plan to switch between cars I suggest you buy a friction mount instead.
Last one burnt July 26, 2007 I had to buy a new one because I left the previous inside the car, and here in Italy it is really hot and sunny in this period, and the plastic melted! Hope this one will last more...
piece of junk July 25, 2007 Same problem as others.....although I live in AZ, I did not have a problem. But I used it for a road trip to San Diego in a rental car, left it on for two days (80 degree temps) and it melted to the rental car windshield. I did not have a problem in 110 degree weather in AZ. Makes no sense to me. It is no longer useable. What a diappointment since the Nuvi costs alot more money than other systems.
Don't leave it on in the sun for too long July 7, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have to this suction cup mount 2 stars because I had a Garmin Quest with a suction cup mount and it was far worse than this one. I was very pleased when I first stuck this on my winshield with my new Nuvi 350 as it stuck right on and stayed on (big improvement over the Quest mount). I was so pleased in fact I purchased a second for my wife's car so I would not have to switch between our two cars. Well that was a mistake. I left it stuck on her windshield for a week or so and went to remove it. No go, it was like I had super glued it on. Like others have stated, I had to remove it with a knife and razor the remainder off the windshield. Here I was so pleased Garmin had fixed the issues with their mounts only to find it was now too stuck on. In an effort to make help the suction cup stick after the first few on/off, when it would start to fall off on its own, I cleaned both the windshield and the suction cup with a glass cleaner. This solved the problem of it falling off, but may have contributed to the 'stuck on with glue' that I experienced. Your options are limited when it comes to ways to mount your Nuvi, so if you do buy this I would stay away from cleaning the suction cup with glass cleaner (perhaps just water and a towel) and remove it every few days in an effort to prevent having to remove it with a knife I experienced.
Suction cup doesn't July 5, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Am replacing this unit with one from ProClip at $60. The Garmin Suction Cup mount is not reliable. Even after repeated cleaning of suction cup and mounting plate, the suction cup will break loose from the base plate, sometimes without the Garmin Unit even attached.
