1 out of 5 stars How not to win customers   November 8, 2006

I ordered the Garmin 360 based on reviews of the 350 for my husband's birthday. It arrived and he opened it. He actually read the instructions first - he then turned it on and chose language etc. The first thing you notice is that the manual is for the 310/360. The instructions did not match up with the accessories that were included in the box. O.K. so they did not update it so great, well it is made in Taiwan. But when he went to put it on again, it was deader than a door nail. We called tech support and were blown off. Nasty - Really third rate won't give out last names. We gave then ours. "Jack" couldn't be found when we called back. No email addresses for supervisor. Why do they hide? Called corporate put into voice mail. Bet you can count on them for service after the return time to Amazon. We will follow up - glutton for punishment asked for replacement.

5 out of 5 stars Great Device!   November 6, 2006

After using this thing for the last month I will say that this is the greatest piece of technology that I've purchased in the last 15 years!
And Garmin informs me of updates to the OS and mapping and have provided great post purchase support. I would say the 360 is worth every penny I've paid for it. Love it. It comes in at number 4. My wife, my grandkids, Calvin my Lab. and the Garmin.

3 out of 5 stars Almost pleased   November 6, 2006

My cars currently have GPS systems that are fairly efficient but not very easy to program - Prius and Lexus. The 360 is a delight when it comes to ease of adding new destinations/locations. I love the fact that you can turn off the 'safety feature' and have a passanger add locations while you are driving. They could simplify the method of giving your favorite location a specific name.

I have an offroad electric powered Segway and it is just great to have your cell phone working all the time on a hands free system. You really got to keep both hands on the handle bars in rough terrain on one of these things. Unfortunately, when you are off road the internal maps are useless, and there is no way currently you can add an overlay of USGS countour maps. This is possible in other Garmin GPS systems. A feature like this is important when you "Mark" a location that you would like to return to off-road.

Unfortunately I had a confilct with the Bluetooth from my GPS in my Prius, and I suspect that's what knocked out my Nuvi 360. A call to the Garmin support site quickly repaired my unit with a download on the Internet. Now, I know enough not to use it near another Bluetooth capable GPS when using a Bluetooth cellphone.

I am disappointed that there seens to be no way for a user to replace the battery, as this would be great feature to have for extended use. I don't even know if the battery can be replaced?

I will be taking a trip to New Zealand and Austrailia but there seems to be no way to add road maps for these countries unless you buy a Nuvi that has these maps built in. I see that Nuvis are available in Australia.

4 out of 5 stars Tough first test   November 4, 2006

Rather than keep paying extra for rental cars with navigation systems, we decided we'd invest in the Nuvi. We travelled to France in September, and tooled around Provence, where most of the roads aren't marked. We purchased the France map in advance. We had nearly flawless performance from the Nuvi, even on tiny back roads and out of the way villages. The only flaw was the routing it gave us one night - it got us back to our chambre-d'hote, but via a somewhat circuitous route. We had fun measuring our velocity on the TGV with it - got up to 299 kph! The MP3 portion works fairly well, but the software could be easier to use.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Garmin NUVI 360   November 4, 2006

Outstanding product by GArmin. It fits into your pocket and is very useful. WE drove from Midwest to California with car trouble descending down the rockies. This saved us by locating a service center 60 miles ahead. Next step is to get an interent on to this. Amazon was the only place where I found this prdt to be $100-200 to cheaper than anywhere else. Highly recommend this for even the driver with the saaviest geographical sense. Worth the money
