2 out of 5 stars GARMIN YES, Amazon ?   September 7, 2008

Purchased a Garmin c550 as gift we are giving today. Am sure it will be a good buy. However in the add for this garmin it listed below "better together" and showed a cigarette lighter cable to the garmin. I assumed this was the power cable and thought of course you need it. However the power cable came with the garmin and I have this extra cable for what reason I do not know. Amazon told me I bought the cable from another company and should return it to them. This involved shipping charges plus a restocking fee. Hardly worth while. After three E Mails I never did get an explanation of why the purchase was better with the extra cable. However when checking my Garmin from Amazon I was surprised to find this cable was supplied with mine. Needless to say I was't impressed with Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars great little gps   September 6, 2008

I used a similar gps in a rental car on a trip to Ohio, and was was very impressed with it. It just makes your life a whole lot easier. I've only had the c550 for a month. This is a real nice unit, it works very well. I can't see how you can pay $2400 for an in dash nav system. I thought I needed a bigger screen, but at less than $170 this is fine. Occasionally, it will take you on some back or dirt road, but if don't want to, just take another road and in a couple of seconds you're re-routed. Also it considers Y's turns, so you'll have to get used that [you don't really make a turn]. If you're driving alone, it's just like having a co-pilot. The voice isn't bad either. I can't see any negatives. Once you use one, you'll have to have it. It's a real time saver, you won't get lost, and you'll save on gas. It will pay for itself. Best to get the a/c charger.

5 out of 5 stars Simply excellent value and operation   September 5, 2008

Same item sells for nearly $200 more in big-box stores. Be sure to take the time to download the updated maps. The process takes three hours (DSL) to download files to computer and another two hours to move them to the unit. Screen is vivid and good size. Many features, many languages and accents, and even some surprises. I was very pleased to see the Blue-Tooth capability for placing and receiving hands-free cell phone calls.

5 out of 5 stars Better Than Expected   September 5, 2008

I read some of the other reviews after I purchased the C550 seems there are quite a few people who have some minor problems with making there's opperate to it's full potential. No problems right out of the box I was looking for the map CD there wasn't one. Already programmed for north America. I bought this to replace my C330 that lasted the good part of 3 years before it started messing up. Alot of the work I do requires going from address to address in neihborhoods all over the state and sometimes "BFE" these GPS's are a real time saver I used my 330 just about everyday of the week (Home Repair/ Handyman Business)Map books are a thing of the past. Like I said before right out of the box this thing works as promissed. The bluetooth paired with my samsung blackjack right away(AT&T). That sure makes life alot easier and safer since my truck has a 6 speed manual trans. I thought about ordering the extention mic. but so far I've had no complaints about the clarity of my calls on the other end and the volume in the cab is more than sufficient. A little ata boy for Amazon I ordered it on the 28th of Aug. 08' and was told I'd have it on the 4th. of Sept. but got it on the 2nd. can't complain about that.
I do have one complaint though I tried to register it with Garmin online and there website doesn't seem to recognize the serial number or model number of the C550 what's up with that I went so far as to plug the unit in to my PC follow there direction and downlaods but stil can't register it. Anyway at $160.00 you can't go wrong with this unit.
