4 out of 5 stars Nuvi 660   December 30, 2007

My wife was pleasantly surprised when she unwrapped her Nuvi 660 for Christmas. She loved all the features it had unlike our 7 yr old Street Pilot 3. The only problems were it didn't have the address we were staying at in Leesburg Ga, even though the neighborhood was 3yrs old and the Garmin map was the latest (2008).

4 out of 5 stars Garmin 660 GPS   December 29, 2007
Very well-designed and easy to use navigation system. Still not as good as the one that came built into my Toyota Prius, but then the 660 costs quite a bit less. My only complaint so far is that the audible directions can be occasionally misleading. For example, I drove 80 miles on California Rte 88 through the mountains. Over a few segments, Rte 88 shares the pavement with Routes 12, 49, and 104. Rather than just saying "Continue on California Highway 88", the 660 said "Keep Left onto California Highway 104" (or something like that). The video made it clear that I was to continue going on the same road, but that audio was confusing.

The recalculation is fast. The screen is easy to read and the (perspective-view) maps are really good, especially for someone who is not very comfortable with maps (like my wife).

Bottom Line: This was an excellent purchase for the price.

5 out of 5 stars Garmin 660 Lived Up to My Expectations   December 29, 2007

I purchased the Garmin 660 based on a friend's recommendation and the GPS Magazine review. But the Cyber Monday discount through Amazon sealed the deal. It is my first GPS and I wanted to spend wisely. I have found it very accurate and quick to recalculate. I travel extensively, often by car. This has saved me a lot of MapQuest printouts. I love it's compact size and especially the simulator which I use often to pre-map my route. I would recommend it to everyone.

This is such a easy useful addition to my dashboard. I leave the map running even when I know where I'm going, just to see what's in the neighborhood that can't be seen from the road.

4 out of 5 stars Useful screen size, easy operation   December 29, 2007

The large screen makes it easy to read the turn instructions or glance at the map whilst driving. Software is intuitive. Saving new locations or finding favorites takes no time. Generally the directions are good but occasionally the program wigs out and has you spin a little circle or take a seemingly circuitous route. Some of the speaking voices are a bit mechanical but generally do a good job with odd place names. Volume quite sufficient to hear over engine and road noise. A trivial point, but I wish they would say 'route' rather than 'R-T'. In my experience the unit has been unable to detect satellites from inside buildings. Haven't tried restaurant or gas station locations yet, just position confirmation and route plotting. Looking forward to using the unit in Europe. Overall, quite happy with this GPS.
