This is my second Garmin. I have the streetpilot 2720 for 4 yrs. This Garmin is awsome, Larger touch screen and I talk on my cell phone via bluetooth on the unit! They just keep getting better! I LOVE it!

AMAZING PRODUCT ON AMAZON May 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this amazing product through amazon and i am very much satisfied with this product for all the features. It has amazing mp3 player very well backed by FM transmitter and a very good photo viewer. Although i am very satisfied with its navigating capacity for all the small tours that i took with it but most of them were for the known routes and i knew ways around...route calculation and off-route calculations were very fast and pretty accurate. I am still not aware of the traffic updates...but as a whole i am very satisfied with this product and definitely recommend it.
Great little device, but Bluetooth doesn't work May 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This Garmin Nuvi 660 is a nice little machine. It works well with the navigation and the traffic updates here in Los Angeles work fine (although not great). A must buy is the friction mount. It works amazingly well and never slides or leaves anything sticky on your dash.
But here is the problem... It will not sync via Bluetooth with my Blackberry Curve. It just keeps disconnecting. I spoke to customer support and upgraded all of the software etc. Still no luck and the Garmin rep said this is a common problem. If you have a Blackberry and buying it for the Bluetooth function, beware! I am returning my unit to Amazon for a refund.
GPS good, Bluetooth and Traffic weak May 14, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I figure you're looking at a 660 vs other nüvis because of the Bluetooth and traffic. Those are the two features that drove me to get a 660 instead of another unit, and since I couldn't find much info about either feature in advance here goes.
Bluetooth: Paired with my Nokia E70 just like any other bluetooth headset. If a call comes in the nüvi pops up a screen with the number and a big button to answer. That works alright. Apparently with some phones you can import your phone's phonebook into the nüvi so that it shows the caller's name as well, but that doesn't seem to work for me. My biggest problem with using the nüvi as a headset is that the volume is wonky. The default volume setting for the nüvi is 80%, which seems perfect for directions. But with the phone that is almost inaudible. I have to crank the nüvi up to 100% to hear callers well. But directions at 100% are crazy loud. Flipping back and forth between 80% and 100% is annoying. I currently have the unit set to 90%, which isn't exactly satisfying in either circumstance. I find myself turning the nüvi off and using my Plantronics headset if I plan to make an extended call.
One last thing with Bluetooth: Hanging up takes (relatively) forever. When you have a call in progress there's a little red phone icon on the map. If you touch that you have to wait about 1.5-2 seconds for a screen to come up with a big red "End Call" button. It takes so long (and thus takes my eyes off the road for so long) that I usually don't bother and just let the other end disconnect the call.
Traffic: I live in the Pasadena area in Southern California, surrounded by a maze of freeways. I have a couple of possible routes to work on different freeways, and was hoping the traffic feature would allow me to choose the best route. Unfortunately I find it almost useless. It takes a while to load traffic when you turn the unit on, and as far as I can tell there's no indication when it has a complete set of data (it just incrementally fills in the traffic map as it gets data), so you aren't sure if it thinks the freeway is clear, or if it just doesn't have data yet. But it probably doesn't matter, because the data is just wrong a significant percentage of the time. I've been going 80 with the traffic map showing red, and going 5 when the traffic map shows clear sailing. That's such a regular occurrence that I don't trust the traffic data or pay much attention to it. Google Maps traffic on my phone seems much more accurate, so good data is out there.
The price differences are so small now that it doesn't cost all that much extra to get the 660 vs. a 650 or a 260W, so you probably will just get the 660. Just be forewarned that the extra features are only mediocre.
