5 out of 5 stars We love our Nuvi 660!   May 26, 2007

My sister received the Nuvi 350 as a gift and we decided to upgrade to get the Bluetooth and a better display. We had always wanted a Garmin, since a relative had several and swore by the software and customer service. So we did extensive comparative shopping across the Garmin line. We had narrowed it down to the Nuvi 660 and the StreetPilot series, but opted for the brighter screen and built-in battery. We especially enjoyed the intuitive, touch-screen display, which was very visible even on a sunny day.
Having returned from our first trip with our Nuvi, WE LOVE IT. It directed us point-to-point and only a couple of times did it direct us to restaurants that had closed, or referred to an exit number that had obviously changed. But it warned us of 'severe traffic' ahead, and it re-routed us when we were at a dead stop due to a traffic accident. We've also read many comments about the suction cup mount. Frankly, we mounted it to the dash and it worked great. I just ordered a second suction cup mount to use in my car when we want to use the Nuvi there.
This is our first experience with a GPS unit, and so far we have no regrets that we opted for the Nuvi 660!

4 out of 5 stars First Nuvi 660 died in 2 days, but Amazon took good care of me   May 22, 2007

The first Nuvi 660 I received from Amazon died within 2 days of normal use. One morning I put on my dash, turned it on and nothing happened. I thought it was the battery but it wasn't. I tried the car cord and the AC adapter to no avail. I tried to reset it and that was no help as well. I called Amazon and they couldn't have been any nicer. The sent me a brand new unit by overnight mail that same day. They even agreed to pick up the shipping both ways. Their is no better place to buy than Amazon.com. Now that I have a working unit I am very pleased. The unit is excellent. I feel the technology is better than my previous Magellan which was less than 1 year old. The large bright screen is terrific, and the features are great as well. As a bonus when you call Garmin for support you speak to an American in the USA who truly understands any problems you have and are great about helping you. Magellan support as a general rule s**ks. When I needed a part for my unit under warranty, they sent the wrong part 4 times because nobody understood English very well, although they tried very hard, I said I would never buy from Magellan again. The only reason I cannot give this unit five stars is because the first unit was defective after a couple of days.

5 out of 5 stars Gamin Nuvii   May 21, 2007

This a very easy to use intuitive product although the maps are not 100% accurate

4 out of 5 stars It's worth the extra money!   May 20, 2007

PRO's:1] Large 4.3 inch screen
2] Intuitive interface
3] Compact and light
4] Vibrant display
5] Screen does not wash-out in sunlight
6] Clear and loud voice commands

CON's:1] Battery life was disappointing. Fully charged, my brand new Nuvi 660 lasted only about 1 hour. However, I must admit that I was interrogating all the different functions in this unit during the time. This may account for the short life. Left alone while I was driving, the Nuvi 660 lasted nearly 2 hours until I had to recharge.
2] Bluetooth does not pair with my Verizon Wireless LG VX 8300. In fact, the Nuvi guide admits that it pairs with only certain cell phone models. Buyers beware.
3] FM Transmitter is highly overrated. Lot's of static comes through the speakers even though I was able to find an unused FM station. But, this is the case with FM transmitters in general and not just with the Nuvi 660. This feature should not be the selling point for this device.

I did my homework prior to buying the Nuvi 660 and I have to say that I am very pleased. I live in Fairbanks, Alaska and even in a remote place like this I found the map and Point of Interests (POI's) very accurate. Maps of Europe is available for purchase from Garmin; but I was disappointed to hear that it costs $299! However, this doesn't take away from the fact that this is a great GPS unit. Also, I purchased the bean-bag dashboard mount (aka friction mount). I was skeptical at first, but sure enough this bean-bag holds the Nuvi in place even during sharp turns. Finally, the big question is, is the Nuvi 660 worth paying an extra $200 over his little brother the Nuvi 360 (3.5 in screen)? I argue that it is worth it! You get an extra 0.8 diagonal inches of screen which translates to more details on the map at any given zoom-level. Why are 60 inch plasma screens more desirable than 50 inch plasmas? I would like to give the Nuvi 660 five-stars but the short battery life and inadequate Bluetooth forces me to give it only four-stars.

3 out of 5 stars needs updated maps immediately   May 16, 2007

The maps are very impressive in some ways, but a lot of locations are as much as 0.5 miles from their actual location on the map. The location of the car is good, but the map itself is faulty.

The gap is enough to cause the gps navigator to direct you to a completely different place.

I assume this can be rectified by ordering updated map sets from Garmin, but it sucks that I have to spend more money immediately.
