TomTom October 27, 2007 I purchased the TomTom as a gift for my sister so she could take it on a vacation out East. She loves it and recently has used it to take our elderly aunt and uncle out for rides in rural Iowa. They have used it to drive by homes etc. of interest that would have been very difficult if not impossible for them to find. They really enjoy it and are amazed by it.
avoid tom tom support October 27, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a decent product but if at any time you need to deal with TomTom support pay the extra money and buy another brand. They are defint. extremely bad.
Good, but not great October 27, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's a nice device but I can not recommend it to anyone who has to get from A to B under time constraints. It does what it's supposed to do: get you the shortest or fastest way but it does so in accordance with algorithms, not common sense.
Biggest screw ups so far: 4 block detour on a normally straight 11 miles drive; two directions through a high security complex (which was obviously impossible); sent down a one-way street; 15 minutes to pick up position on Interstate while connected to 7 satellites.
It's a good system to use with nice features but I was frustrated by the performance. Looking forward to upgrading to a more expensive model or a Navigon. Chose this because of the good software interface. Very accessible.
TomTom One has outdated map, compared with Garmin nuvi 360 October 27, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My family had a trip to Toronto couple months ago. Because of the trip, I purchased a GPS (Garmin nuvi 360). Since we went there in 2 vehicles, we borrowed a Tomtom One from our friends for the 2nd car. The nuvi 360 was the main GPS we were using on the trip, because I hv 2 coworkers who purchased Garmin branded GPS, and both of them are very much satisfied with their Garmin GPS! The tomtom One for us was just a backup GPS in case the 2nd car of us got lost on the way. So, I had the chance to compare nuvi 360 and Tomtom One. When we went from one destination to another, we inputted the address on both GPS. It seems to me that the route on both GPS getting to the same destination is different, time is different too. But I don't think it's a big deal, as there was usually only couple minutes time difference. But, in one instance, we tried to get to a hotel in Toronto, my nuvi 360 has no problem to locate the hotel. However, the Tomtom One couldn't recognize/ find the street the hotel locates, that means we weren't able to locate the hotel on the TomTom One. It turned out that we needed to look at the route shown on nuvi 360, and looked at the second-to-the-last step on the route to get the street name of the intersection. And then inputted that street name on TomTom One to find the route. I'm glad that I purchased Nuvi 360, instead of TomTom brand's GPS. I highly recommended Garmin to all my friends and coworkers, who are seeking to buy a GPS. TomTom One is much cheaper than nuvi 360. But, ask yourself, what is the reason u buy a GPS? Answer: able to locate the destination on your GPS. u want a peace of mind. If the map on your GPS is outdated, and u might not able to locate a destination on your GPS one day. Why are u spend your money for it then??!!! If u really don't want to spend more $ on a Garmin's GPS, u could choose TomTom branded GPS, however, please make sure that u update the map on your TomTom one by paying $ to purchase a latest map from them.
Tomtom - Don't leave home without it! October 25, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
What a world of difference having a GPS device to guide us to unfamiliar destinations on our recent trip. Tomtom was so accurate, we soon did not bother taking the detailed road map and printed directions along.
Our days of road trips with paper maps are over!
Tomtom One is definitely worth the money. Don't bother buying a $2000+ GPS system integrated into your next car. Tomtom One will get you there for approximately $200. A big bonus: you can use it in any of your cars.
Tomtom One is compact and fits easily in my pockets. A great buy!!!
