Tom Tom One January 9, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a fairly compact unit that offers alot of options out of the box. There are a few other voice styles that can be used, updating the basic unit is available and interfaces to your home/laptop computer. My wife thinks its better than the Neverlost system (Hertz) and its easy to setup. Any faults would be the limited offers inside the box expired before I even got it. This included more voices, database updates and a few other add-ons that I would have liked to have seen. Otherwise, this is a very good system to use.

This is a great product and the value is the best. It does everything we need without the higher price of the Garmin.
Very disappointed January 6, 2007 23 out of 26 found this review helpful
We purchased this GPS to use for our move across the country. The first one we purchased worked for about 2 days then simply would not turn on. After following the troubleshooting guide, it still would not turn on so we exchanged it for another of the same. This one worked for about 2 weeks and ended up doing the same thing. We exchanged it for a Garmin and are much happier.
I agree with the other reviewers who stated that the maps are out of date. To say the least! There is a big shopping area that has got to be at least 6 years old in our neighborhood, but the ONE showed it to be nothing! Many of the newer roads, POI's and addresses were not on the map. Even when we were at home, the ONE showed us to be parked in a field and the apartment complex we live in is 10 years old! Also the GPS was slow to find the satellites.
We happen to be moving to CA, so I'm glad I read the review about not being able to mount things to your windshield. The tomtom ONE does not come with nearly as many accessories as the Garmin, and you can only mount it to the windshield, which I didn't really like anyway.
We paid more money for the Garmin, but it is definately worth it!
SO easy even my mom can use it January 6, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
My brother and I decided to get this for my mom (SueSue) for Christmas because last year I got a TomTom Go 300 due to chronically getting lost in a new city. We were SO impressed with that TomTom that we got this newer, smaller technology. It is EVEN better than mine. It acquired satellite RIGHT out of the box and was accurate in calculating routes. Seriously, TomTom is comparable to the $2500 system in my boyfriend's Accura. Seriously! My mom loves us SO much now that she cannot get lost anymore. :)
I would not buy this product after the bad experience January 4, 2007 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Update, After using it for more than a month. I have less favorable opinion on this product. It freezes 3 times within one month. You have to use a pin to push through a small hole to get it response again. I was on the road yesterday and it freezed on me. I did not have a pin with me, so I can not use the product at all when I need it the most. I called their support today, I was told that the product does behave that way sometimes and it is "normal". If I have a choice now, I will buy the Garmin Nuvi 360.
Original post: I bought the One two weeks ago. I loved it in the first two days. The screen is bright. After it locked to the satellite, it is a great device. However, I noticed that it may take several minutes (up to 7 minutes so far) for it to find its location. So far I have tested it in several different locations around Los Angeles. Once I started it at LAX and it could not find its location. After I drove on highway 105 for 7 min, it finally find its location. Several times it took about 3 to 4 min to find its location in Glendale area after I turned it on. I was lucky that I know where to drive. It is useless if you are in an area that you don't know the rount, unless you have the patient to wait for 7 min.
