Dashboard Mount Works Great July 12, 2008
We have used the Garmin Portable Dashboard Mount on two recent trips and have found it to provide a very stable base for the GPS. Even when traveling over some bumpy roads it continued to work well. While the base does not slip on the dash it can be moved and stowed easily with or without the GPS attached.

This little bean bag type holder for the navigator is great. It stays in place and makes it easy to transport from car to car or just take from the car without anyone knowing you have a portable system that they could break into your car for. I just take it and put it under my seat and no mark on the windsheild, no sign of a system. It is easy to use.

I purchased this dashboard friction mount for a Garmin Nuvi 760 GPS since California does not allow GPS devices to be mounted on the windows. This is a friction device that sits on your dashboard basically anywhere you put it. It doesn't block your vision and can be easily seen from most positions in my automobile. It does not harm your dashboard or affect it in any way, and it does not move from the position in which it is placed during normal freeway driving (I did not try high-speed turns, since I don't normally drive that way). I am quite satisfied that it is the smartest way to mount a GPS receiver in an automobile and the price is reasonable for the convenience and functionality it affords. This is an excellent design, which makes for a convenient way to use a GPS in California, or if you don't want to use adhesives on your windows or dashboard.

This mount is the one you will probably like the best. It fits all the Nuvi and most Streetpilot models. You simply snap your GPS on to the base and place it on your dash. It is weighted and has tacky bottom pads to keep it in place while you drive. When you park, you simply unplug your car addapter and place the whole unit under your seat or in your console. That way, no one can even tell you have a GPS. Many folks for some reason leave theirs on the windshield mount clearly visible. That's an open invitation to a thief and many are being stolen ending in a costly repair for a broken side window. In summary, no product is perfect and if you slam on the brakes, you can expect even this one to move, but over all, I've had one for almost a year and it's stayed where I put it every time.

Bracketron UFM-100BL Nav-Mat GPS Friction Dash Pad
The Garmin Friction Dashboard Mount is a wonderful way to mount your Garmin, I don't have any complaints about it. But it's so specific for a certain product. The Bracketron Nav-Mat is so much better as it can be used with just about any suction to windshield mounted device and costs 1/3 of the Garmin Dashboard Mount. They both hold amazingly well to the dashboard, are both easily moved to suit different drivers or to hide the GPS.
