Garmin Friction Mount January 23, 2008
While it isn't the most attractive article to find on a dashboard, it really does what it is supposed to do and does it well. I have had no issues with this mount holding my Street Pilot c530 in place. When I was using the windshield mount, ( I liked having the c530 by my rearview mirror) it would fall off the glass a couple of times after reattaching it after stops. Now I can take the entire unit off the dash, place it under my seat, and not worry about theft. I bought two, one for my wife's car as well.

Great product vs standard window suction mount. A little bulky, but is highly portable from car to car, can be hidden after use easily leaving no trace of GPS around.

This thing is nothing less than pure genius. It's easier to use than the windshield mount (slap it on and you're done), it's more secure than the windshield mount (just move it into a center console when parked), it's more flexible than the windshield mount, and it doesn't block the defroster air flow like the windshield mount. Why isn't this standard with every Garmin GPS?

The Garmin Friction mount allows you to keep your Nuvi within sight and reach, without having to install a permanent mount. This thing is a must if you want to use your GPS on your dash in states that do not allow anything to be attached to the windshield. I was a little skeptical about how it would handle tight turns and twisty roads, but that was completely unfounded as the Nuvi never budged. It's like four bean bags anchoring a standard Garmin GPS mount.
The only very minor downside is that it weighs a little over 3lbs.
Right for the job January 22, 2008
I purchased this product after looking around for quite awhile for someway to mount my Garmin Nuvi 660 someplace visible, but not illegally (CA)to the windshield. I tried glueing the mounting disc Garmin provides to the dashboard of my Tahoe, but no place is perfectly flat and it soon fell off. The friction mount works perfectly. It's just the right weight and hasn't moved in the weeks I've had it on top of the dash. And it's easy to remove and hide it with the GPS unit. It's not exactly high tech, but it does the job perfectly. I'd recommend it.
