5 out of 5 stars Garmin Portable Friction GPS Mount   September 30, 2007
The friction mount works as expected. I would not have purchased it except that window suction mounts are illegal in California.

5 out of 5 stars Absolute must in CA.   September 30, 2007
This mount is absolutely neccessary in CA as suction cup mounts on the windshield are prohibited. Why ruin the dash of your car with the disc that's included with the Nuvi. The beanbag works great on the dash of my car and truck. The Nuvi stays put and doesn't move a bit despite hard acceleration, cornering and braking. The backing adapter for the NUVI will need to be removed from the suction cup mounting arm and popped onto the beanbag.

This mount is essentially 4 beanbags contained within a sturdy thick nylon casing. I've used it in 2 vehicles and in both cases it's stayed put, even during turns in an SUV. Since you don't have to hook it up or otherwise attach it to anything, it's easily stored or moved to another vehicle. I've been very happy with the mount and recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars great dash mount   September 29, 2007

This item works great.
I have driven at 80+ mph turned corners at about 35 mph and it has not budge. since then I have bought one for a birthday present. and would buy again!!! worth the 27 dollars. Some complain that it is to much. Yes it would have been great if this was the mount they shipped with the Garmin.
if you have a Garmin get the dash mount you will not regret it!!

5 out of 5 stars Whoa, it works!   September 29, 2007

Even after all the positive reviews for the friction mount, I was highly skeptical that it would stay on the dash of our Jeep Liberty. We had gone through two window mounts already, same as everyone else, the window mount is almost impossible to take off and put in another car as we like to do on occassion, and it leaves a nice ring of rubber behind. Also after you take it off and on a few times it becomes nearly useless.

So we decided to give the friction mount a try. The dash on our Jeep Liberty is not a real uniform area, the air vents jut up into the dash and the window vents are also right where you would put the mount so i felt like there wouldn't be a great surface for it to "grab" onto, but there is a decent little area where it could settle on.

So I put it on and attached our Nuvi. At first glance I was like "no way that thing is staying on there in a sharp turn." So I took the Jeep into an empty parking lot at night and proceeded to do a variety of very sharp turns in both directions. The mount didn't even move. Honestly it's almost like magic. Cool device and nice and easy to hide and move between cars.
