I do not often disagree with the people who own, have evaluated items and submit reviews here. However, I must be the only one who finds this hurky, ugly and marginally useful bean bag thing for mounting a Garmin Nuvi to be awful.
Yes, it works as described and may solve a mounting problem for some people in some automobiles, but I just hated it as a practical matter when I tried to use it in my Toyota 4-Runner.
This huge glob of buck shot or whatever is packed in the base took up way too much room on my dashboard and was almost impossible to pack away in the car when not in use. It won't fit in a glove compartment or a console bin. I finally had to stuff mine under the seat in order to get it out of sight while I was away from my vehicle.
I just couldn't bring myself to using this thing and eventually just used the "sticky" mounting bracket that came with my Nuvi instead. I was trying to avoid that.
I thought of sending the Garmin Portable Friction Mount for Nuvi back, but decided it wasn't worth the trouble. Besides, someday I might need a huge unsightly paper weight or door stop with a funny plastic stalk on it.
Perfect Mounter October 31, 2007
This mounter is perfect for anyone who doesn't feel comfortable leaving their GPS visible. I had a system that was attached through suction, and it was stolen within 2 weeks. The mounter DOES NOT move and makes it easy to put the system away when you leave the car.

I have used it in my Toyota Sequoia and Honda Civic. It's very stable in turns and I am very happy with the unit.

My suction cup mount worked great until I needed to transfer it to my other car. The heat from the sun on the BLACK rubber melted it. The dashboard mount is stable even when pushing the control buttons on my Garmin i5. Short stops, starts and turns never cause slippage. Taking it on trips to tranfer to my rent-a-car is easy.

Glad I stopped using the suction cup mount that came with the Garmin unit, it kept falling off the glass. This mount works much better.
