Functional, Cost Effective June 15, 2008 Good little unit for the money. The MSN feature is nice when you are in areas that it supports. I'd love to see them add a doppler radar page to the MSN service to really raise the bar. I don't like the MSN hardware portion being built in to the cigarette lighter adapter but it is what it is for now. The price was right when I bought it and it has been worth the amount spent without a doubt. My father has borrowed the unit and enjoyed it as well and he is not tech-savvy. The roads are pretty up to date in my area, rerouting is pretty quick and intuitive as well.
GREAT ITEM June 14, 2008 Great GPS, use it all the time, but does give you incorrect directions at times.
Garmin is great, MSN service worthless June 13, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Garmin Streetpilot works great as a navigator. The MSN service works in Baltimore, but almost no-where else. I recently traveled to South Carolina. The only place I could get an MSN signal was for about 15 minutes in downtown Charlotte NC. The other 8+ hours on the trip, no signal, no traffic gas prices etc. I like the Bluetooth, but my wife says it sounds lousy on the other end. I would opt for a lower priced Garmin, with some other traffic service.
High quality GPS, with minor problems June 13, 2008 Have had this C580 for 1 month now, and have generally been happy with it. So far it has always gotten me within sight range of my destination, though the final directional command is sometimes not applicable. After having it for 2 weeks, it did lose my stored favorites. Those are my only complaints.
One other comment is that when I read the "What's in the box" list, I did not think that it included a charging cord, so I purchased charging cords (Car and Home) from Gomadic. However, it says the MSN direct receiver has an "integrated vehicle power cable", which charges the unit. I thought the power cable just charged the MSN receiver, but it charges the C580 as well. Very happy with the current prices on these babies, much cheaper for the quality than in the past.
Wonderful GPS June 13, 2008 It's a perfect gps I used, the only short is it's not portable and can't search in its own database. I like it and recommend to others if you don't care its bulky shape.
