5 out of 5 stars WOW!   July 19, 2007

I bought this unit because it has European maps loaded. We plan to use it during our Italian trip at the end of July. Using it in the U.S., it has far exceeded our expectations-intuitive to use and accurate.

5 out of 5 stars Gets you where you need to go   July 18, 2007

This is an excellent product and we are very happy with it.
We took the Garmin Nuvi 370 to Italy with us. What a lifesaver. There were only 2 instances where we ended up with no where to go. Both were a result of us taking wrong turns and the Garmin having to recalculate. One time we ended up under the freeway where the road had been wiped out by said freeway, and the other (in Piombino) the city had blocked the road making it a pedestrian crossing.
My husband found a couple of problems while using it around here, before we left. When an address was near the boundary of two cities, Nuvi 370 couldn't find it. The software needs some updating.
"Garmin Gertie's" pronunciation of Italian leaves much to be desired. Although, we exprienced great frustration initially, because of it, we had to admit, she was good for a laugh now and again!
We eventually turned her off and just followed the highlighted route.
To date, we feel the Nuvi 370 to be about 95% correct.

4 out of 5 stars GPS good, Traffic Indicator bad   July 18, 2007

The GPS is very handy because of it's small size. It is not perfect but it is better than flying blind. I ended up buying another Nuvi 350 for my other car because I felt uncomfortable driving without GPS. It will fit in your shirt pocket. It is a lifesaver when navigating in unfamiliar territory. I like that it tells you the street names rather than just saying, "turn left."

You need to use your brain when you use this product. AVOID the temptation to fuss with it while driving. I have come very close to crashing several times. You also need to use your brain and not follow the driving directions blindly. At times it will navigate you into illegal or impractical driving solutions.
You will soon hear what will become a very familiar phrase, "recalculating."

The problems I had were with the LA Traffic indicator service. It seemed to navigate me into traffic situations that were far worse than I would have done on my own. Too bad, it could really be a terrific function.

5 out of 5 stars Nuvi 370   July 12, 2007

The gps is compact and easy to use. I recently use the Nuvi 370 on a trip to Ireland. The navigation was efficient and always led to the correct destination. I would recommend this device for someone who travels and would appreciate a portable, quality navigator.

5 out of 5 stars Very happy with our Nuvi   July 9, 2007

We bought our Nuvi prior to a trip to Europe and then Newport, RI and South Bend, IN. It is really an amazing little device. Excellent for the car, finds the most obscure little streets and is invaluable for travel. It allows you to save your current location so that you can easily return to it as well as retrieve the most recent places viewed. Its search function is amazing -- we were able to find the four or five (or more) closest Starbuck's, Home Depot's and Friday's while traveling in Chicago. Another great feature is the POI (Points of Interest). We had preloaded some POI's into the Garmin, prior to going to Europe, and when we approached each one, the Garmin started telling us about them (for instance, as we neared the David in Florence, we heard the five minute history on the famous Michelangelo sculpture). The only problem we encountered was using the pedestrian mode - although the Garmin could give us direction, we would often pass a turn and walk almost a block before we realized that we missed the turn - there was no "recalculating" in the pedestrian mode. Overall, we are thrilled with our purchase and highly recommend it to anyone who travels.
