3 out of 5 stars Poor Customer Service!   May 2, 2008

This GPS works fine, BUT you have to buy $75 map updates for it. I have never written a review before but I wanted to share my frustration about MIO's cust service and their map update policy. I will not purchase another of their products!

3 out of 5 stars soso product   May 2, 2008
Not that user friendly.

I'm living in bay area. It lost me several times. I seldom need to use a GPS.. more correctly .. never! I always look at the google map and I know how to get there, but this GPS is really confusing sometimes.

Moreover, I don't like the text-to-speech content...for example.. instead of calling 101 - highway 101, it will say bayshore highway. and 92 will be another name that I can never remember cause no one here will use that.

I'm going to get rid of this one and try another.

2 out of 5 stars 2 stars for bad marketing   April 30, 2008

I have used the C230x and do not want to pay $70 for an updated map. So I am thinking of getting a new one, model C520, but I just find out from calling MIO that I will have to pay for an updated map for this model any way. To me, this is bad.
Any way, I drop the idea of buying new MIO. I hope this helps anyone thinking of buying new MIO C230x or C520 because you will have to buy updated map; they should offer updated map free of charge to new customers.

1 out of 5 stars don't expect good customer service   April 29, 2008

I was using this device and its working perfect. Then I bought a map update CD for $80+tax+shipping. I did the firmware update. Then for map update, you have to go on the site to receive the activation code. When I put all the information, this is what I get

msxml3.dll error '80072efd'

A connection with the server could not be established

/mapupdate/inc/conn.asp, line 21

Now the bad side is that due to firmware update, I can't use the map application and have to wait till I get the activation code from the site. I have been waiting for more than 6 days, called customer support and was told to wait till the site is fixed. So the GPS is now like a brick with limited functionality. I wanted to use the old map version till the site is fixed, I was told that I have to send the device in to fix it. I guess you can sell a car without an engine and expect the customer to wait till the company figures out where the engine went.

3 out of 5 stars Great GPS but version 2006 MAPS on a new GPS like this one is not good   April 28, 2008

While this GPS is fantastic, I was surprised that it came with version 2006 MAPS which are 2 years behind.

Shame that it comes with old maps. You will need to pay around $50-$80 to get new maps. :(
