Meets my expectations April 21, 2008 I have had this for about a month. In the time I have used it it has performed well. If you miss a turn it recalculates your directions. Don't expect it to be perfect. There have been a couple times it has told me I was turning on a road that was a different named road than was actually there, but it was the correct way to get to where I was going. Example (it will say "turn right in a 1/4 mile on Smith St., and when you get to where Smith St. is, it is actually Johnson St.). When it does this, I just go ahead and turn on the street and usually it turns out to be the right way. Also, the speaker is not loud enough for me. I was planning on hooking up and external speaker but the head phone connection, where I was going to connect the speaker to, is smaller than the mini plug that is on head phones or speakers. I think mini phones or speakers are 3.5 mm and I think the one on the Mio is 2.5. I will have to find an adapter. Bummer! I did get my money's worth for this product. It seems to have the features of the more expensive units at a least expensive price.
Best nav on the market April 20, 2008 Easy to use, awesome graphics. Doesn't look "cartoony" like most navs. The only drawback is using the data-to-voice feature where the nav uses the voice to guide you. It seems to give you directions every mile or more and it is simply too much. "Stay on roadway next 100 yards" is unnecessary. I loved the fact that is reads out the actual road names instead of using distances like most navs.
Great Features, Bad GPS for Hawaii April 10, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I hate to return this unit because of the great features in one unit. I received my refund from AMAZON yesterday. Five stars with all the features except for the main purpose of this item, the GPS/MAP for Hawaii, i.e. Honolulu, Maui, Big Island, and Kauia need to be completely revise. I travel to different island for my work a month ago and the MIO map is unreliable. A lot of streets are wrong or will give you a wrong direction. In Honolulu, one of the freeway exit, the text on the screen and voice text is one before the next exit, although the highlighted route is correct; less than year old street name is correct, but the main road street name is still the old name (12 years ago). Here is the bad part. I went to the TeleAtlas to report the problem and filled out the form. After a few minutes, I received an automatic response email "Thank you for submitting a correction to our map. We will research and verify the information and will take appropriate action. We will notify you once the map is updated and provide you the information where you can purchase the updated version of the map" or words to that effect. What???? I help them correct their deficiency, now I have to pay? Maybe MIO need to partner with different map company. I previously used Mapopolis, Garmin, MS Street & Maps, and IGuidance, MIO MAP by TeleAtlas for Hawaii is worst. I think TeleAtlas is updating their map by adding new streets without updating or reviewing the contents of their previous map information, unless someone reported it.
Super GPS but useless maps April 9, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this product on April 4, 2008 and the features are very nice. I had no trouble connecting 'bluetooth' devices and setting destinations without reading the manual (since you have to print the 100 page MioMap manual and the 100 page hardware manual. BUT, I cannot find my way home!! I have lived in a relatively new house for 3 1/2 years and my street does not appear on the maps. Checking, I find the maps on my NEW Mio C520 are dated 2006. I can understand that but also would expect the manufacturer to provide the latest version of the maps for free. From here on, I would expect to pay for map updates. I have contacted Mio several times since I purchased the C520 and there is a new map (July, 2007). Unfortunately Mio expects me to purchase the update. Sorry Mio, it's being packaged up and returned. Before I purchased the Mio I used a few Garmin's and found my address in each case. If your looking for good design and features I'd recommend this device but if you're looking for GPS Navigation you better keep looking. SO be prepared if you purchase this very nice piece of hardware with nice features, the most important thing you bought it for is outdated. Ron
