1 out of 5 stars Great Features, Bad GPS for Hawaii   April 10, 2008
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

I hate to return this unit because of the great features in one unit. I received my refund from AMAZON yesterday. Five stars with all the features except for the main purpose of this item, the GPS/MAP for Hawaii, i.e. Honolulu, Maui, Big Island, and Kauia need to be completely revise. I travel to different island for my work a month ago and the MIO map is unreliable. A lot of streets are wrong or will give you a wrong direction. In Honolulu, one of the freeway exit, the text on the screen and voice text is one before the next exit, although the highlighted route is correct; less than year old street name is correct, but the main road street name is still the old name (12 years ago). Here is the bad part. I went to the TeleAtlas to report the problem and filled out the form. After a few minutes, I received an automatic response email "Thank you for submitting a correction to our map. We will research and verify the information and will take appropriate action. We will notify you once the map is updated and provide you the information where you can purchase the updated version of the map" or words to that effect. What???? I help them correct their deficiency, now I have to pay? Maybe MIO need to partner with different map company. I previously used Mapopolis, Garmin, MS Street & Maps, and IGuidance, MIO MAP by TeleAtlas for Hawaii is worst. I think TeleAtlas is updating their map by adding new streets without updating or reviewing the contents of their previous map information, unless someone reported it.

1 out of 5 stars Super GPS but useless maps   April 9, 2008

I bought this product on April 4, 2008 and the features are very nice. I had no trouble connecting 'bluetooth' devices and setting destinations without reading the manual (since you have to print the 100 page MioMap manual and the 100 page hardware manual.
BUT, I cannot find my way home!!
I have lived in a relatively new house for 3 1/2 years and my street does not appear on the maps. Checking, I find the maps on my NEW Mio C520 are dated 2006. I can understand that but also would expect the manufacturer to provide the latest version of the maps for free. From here on, I would expect to pay for map updates.
I have contacted Mio several times since I purchased the C520 and there is a new map (July, 2007). Unfortunately Mio expects me to purchase the update. Sorry Mio, it's being packaged up and returned.
Before I purchased the Mio I used a few Garmin's and found my address in each case.
If your looking for good design and features I'd recommend this device but if you're looking for GPS Navigation you better keep looking.
SO be prepared if you purchase this very nice piece of hardware with nice features, the most important thing you bought it for is outdated.

5 out of 5 stars Execelent service   April 9, 2008
I have no complants with this service and as my rating indicates I was very pleased with the excellent service.

5 out of 5 stars Great GPS after learning curve. FULL of features!   April 7, 2008
PROS: Full of features, Bluetooth(Great for those who's states have made talking on your phone while driving illegal), MP3 player, video player, picture viewer, and an extensive POI library. Split screen view is the best interface idea I have seen on any GPS. Easy to use for the basics right out of the box, but even better once you read the manual and learn all of the more advanced features. Good Battery life. Great File transfer interface for using SD cards.

CONS: Overall Speaker Volume is below average(Radio loud = not being able to hear GPS. A powered window mount speaker is included with European c520t and can be bought for roughly $30 -- [http://www.amazon.com/Mio-Factory-Cradle-built-speaker/dp/B000VK1QDE/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=miscellaneous&qid=1207570523&sr=8-3]; but is not as much of an increase in volume as expected; but better sound quality at higher volumes - makes placing and removing from car MUCH better, as the clip that comes with it requires 2 hands to detach and also is more difficult/impossible to plug the charger into if you have it mounted really low on windshield). Occasionally will freeze(I've had mine for over a month and has maybe froze 5 times; often when trying to change multiple settings or use multiple features simultaneously), Some settings/defaults unable to be changed(ie. bluetooth phone call speaker volume defaults to medium volume, you cannot set it to remain High for all calls, you must increase the volume at the start of each call. -- not a huge deal, but annoying nonetheless.

I recommend registering online and updating your software online (for free) - Mio has really been staying on top of attempting to fix glitches and other software based issues, allowing users to download patches/updates online; as well as, new voices, etc.

5 out of 5 stars Mio C520 GPS is a great unit for the price.   April 6, 2008
I purchased the Mio C520 GPS from Beach Camera, through Amazon.com. The unit arrived quickly and well packaged. The unit has performed flawlessly. It is very accurate in the positioning and I have found the voice to be easily understandable. I did purchase the optional power cradle with the built in speaker that allows me to remove the GPS without disconnecting the power cord. I purchased a 2008 Avalon with the optional factory navigation, and the Mio unit is far better than the Toyota unit. The Toyota navigation does not have a touchscreen, but a "joystick" that is definately not a joy. The Mio unit was less than $250, and runs rings around the $2000 Toyota piece of garbage! ARE YOU LISTENING TOYOTA? The Mio unit is very easy to use and I found that setup took me a while, but it is very functional. The only suggestion I have would be to have a way to delete individual POI's rather than deleting all at once. I would defianately recommed this unit.
