4 out of 5 stars Garmin   January 13, 2008
I have seen other GPS's recently and this unit by far is the most user friendly, regardless of the price. It does just what I needed it to do, and the price was very good. Thanks

5 out of 5 stars Another satisfied customer   January 13, 2008
I bought the Garmin Nuvi 200 for my "directionally challenged" girlfriend. She has already taken a couple of trips and the Garmin directed her perfectly. We used Garmin devices in rental cars this past year and couldn't have been more pleased. That made it easy for me to choose the perfect Christmas gift. I highly recommed the Garmin nuvi 200.

5 out of 5 stars Garmin's perfect GPS   January 13, 2008
I just got a Nuvi 200 a week ago, however I've also been using a Garmin Streetpilot C330 for over a year.

The Nuvi 200 is the perfect GPS. How many people really want their GPS to be their MP3 player, photo album, etc? All I want is a GPS with lots of Points of Interest (POI) and the ability to know the Lat/Long coordinates of specific locations.

With the Nuvi 200, just tap the car icon on the screen and you get a dialog box with the Lat/Long position. It also asks if you'd like to mark this location as a favorite. You can even go back later and edit the location's name. (the default is 001, 002, 003 ...) for each point you save.

I love the small size. Unlike the C330 the Nuvi 200 fits in a shirt pocket. I decided to skip the extra width of the 200W. The screen on the 200 is plenty big.

Garmin has the best user-interface of any GPS brand I've seen on the market.

The new "ball and socket" mounting system is fantastic. The Nuvi is easy to install and remove. You can also adjust the unit for perfect viewing.
Moving the power cord directly to the unit is an improvement over the StreetPilot design where the car charger went to the mounting bracket. A second windshield mount is less than $10 for use in a second vehicle.

The minor things I don't like:

1) Expensive map updates from Garmin.
2) No external reset button for when the unit locks-up.

Note to GPS manufacturers: Keep it simple. Stop throwing all the extra bells and whistles to justify your ridiculously high prices. I don't want/need another MP3 player, bluetooth connectivity, etc.

4 out of 5 stars Nuvi 200   January 12, 2008
This Nuvi is the bare bones of the Garmin collection,it's a great starter GPS. But if your into downloading new icons and music or other stuff into it, forget about it. But it does show your pictures and thats about it when it comes to extras(No traffic). For the money you cant beat the accuracy,it will get you to your destination.

5 out of 5 stars Nuvi 200 - happy so far   January 12, 2008
We have been using our Nuvi 200 for a few weeks now. Don't know how we got along without it! I'm very glad we didn't go nuts on a higher model with more bells in whistles - this one seems to have a nice set of basic/core features. The map set was loaded with the 2008 version and generally has been good, although it has missed a couple of new roads on our trips. Running low on gas today, I used the gas station database feature. Unfortunately, it had me going right by a gas station while I was on empty! Not sure if it was a new one? Generally the satellite acquisition and startup is quick. My sister bought the Nuvi 350 which prompts turns by mentioning the actual street name rather than a generic "turn left" or "turn right", but it hasn't been a problem at all without that. I'm in N.H. so most of my trips are more rural. Maybe the street prompting feature is more useful in the city where you may be coming up on streets which are closely spaced and hearing the exact street name is more helpful?
My kids suggested we use the English pronunciation for the voice prompts - a bit of fun when the turns come up - Good Show!
Overall we have been very happy with the Nuvi 200 and glad we didn't overspend on the higher models. Amazon was great with the shipping - got it to me earlier than expected and in time for Christmas.
Based on suggestions from some of the other reviewers we also bought the Garmin Portable Friction Base. That has been great in moving it from car to car and has stayed in place well.
