5 out of 5 stars Garmin nuvi 270   September 30, 2008
Great product right out of the box. The only extra piece of equipment needed is a micro usb cable so that one can register the product and receive updates via the computer/web site. Great price for a device that already comes loaded with European maps. Easy to mount, easy to hear over traffic or radio sound levels, quick to re-calculate if a turn is missed, and easy to enter addresses. The "points of interest" feature is invaluable for driving in new areas. LOVE IT!!

5 out of 5 stars So Far....Great!   September 30, 2008
I received the Garmin Nuvi 270 a day before a golf trip to Alabama. I have never owned a GPS device before, nor used one, so I was curious as to how difficult for a 50+year old, it would be to use right out of the box on unfamiliar roads....It turned out to be easy, intuitive and very useful. Installed on front glass, waited for the unit to download location/maps and went through the step by step prompts and was rewarded with good directions to our destination!!!! Any missteps along the way were quickly re-calculated by the unit. I am now looking forward to using it in Arizona next month and France next year....

My only requests to Garmin would be to eliminate a few programming steps, such as which country am I in, the unit knows where it is, and it's unlikely I would drive from this continent to Europe....if I want to go to Canada or Mexico, it could be determined by the state/province requested. Otherwise "great so far".

I would recommend Garmin nuvi 270 if you often travel to Europe and not care much about text to speech which this product does not support.

5 out of 5 stars Garmin Nuvi 270   September 29, 2008
Bought the Garmin Nuvi 270 2 weeks ago on Amazon.com. Incredibly fast shipping. I paid $181.99 plus $12.00 shipping. Item works like a charm. Very easy to understand and operate. I've tried Magellan and Tom Tom GPS systems and they just were too complicated. The Garmin 270 at the current price of $174.99 is a great deal and the bonus maps of Canada and Western Europe make this purchase even better. This Garmin 270 was my first purchase at Amazon and it was a very positive experience. I

1 out of 5 stars Nuvi 270 Doesn't Deliver in Small Town Italy   September 28, 2008

Garmin nüvi 270 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with US, Canada & European Maps

Took the Nuvi 270 to small towns in Italy. In the mountains it frequently couldn't find the satellite for a long while. Then when we either went around mountains or drove in streets in the old villages it would give directions and then say "recalculating" and "make a U turn" and then send us another direction or back to the original direction. In taking the autostrada to Amalfi it took us off of the main road that we were on and put us on a parallel road that took longer and made no sense to change. Addresses were hard to program in. We couldn't find a way to just program the gps to take us to a city center. Did find that larger cities seemed to do better, but didn't really trust it after all of the mistakes.
