1 out of 5 stars Charger died, Garmin support took time to get through, but helped.   October 13, 2008

It worked very well for the first 2.5 months. I rely on it to get me places and after 2.5 months, it shut off and would not stay on. The battery was run down and it would not recharge with the 12V cigarette lighter attachment.
It took some time on the customer service line, about 15 minutes. However, they were helpful and are sending out the cable and adapter for the 12V line. Better than having to ship the thing in and wait.

4 out of 5 stars Garmin Nuvi   October 13, 2008

We love our Nuvi! It is very easy to use and a great aid in travelling. We are very glad we opted to get a Nuvi that gives you text-to-speech, telling you the name of the street, when to turn, and in what direction. We used it on recent vacation to find out-of-the-way antique stores, and it quickly and conveniently routed us right to the door every time. If you know the address, Nuvi will get you there, hassle-free.

5 out of 5 stars NUVI 650- an excellent buy   October 12, 2008

I'm not a novice with GPS units, have 2 other Garman products. My requ
irement was to find a GPS map navigator with a big screen, and the capability for an external antenna. This unit for my wife's car works great. It has a super sensitive receiver to pick up GPS satellites, and acquires all signals only after a few minutes when after installed and turned on. I probably do not need the external antenna for everyday use, unless you want to mount the unit inside the car away from the windows. The touch screen is self evident to use. So far, I'm very pleased. The map library seems sufficient, so far, and I'll be able to download maps of Ireland, Sweden and Europe, when I go there.

5 out of 5 stars Phenomenal   October 12, 2008

This has completely changed how we travel. As an example, my wife and I were moving and we had one weekend to find a rental. We visited 13 rentals in two days across three different, completely unfamiliar towns...and we were completely aware of where we were and where we were going the whole time. Our move from AZ to PA was also a lot easier with this device. Voice speaking of street names is essential.

Two cons. Occasionally, for no apparent reason, it sometimes takes a long while to find satellites. We're talking 3-10 minutes. Second, the point of interest database in Altoona, PA, is for whatever reason woefully out of date and inaccurate.

4 out of 5 stars Nice solid GPS without the bells and whistles   October 11, 2008

I own a "remanufactured" 660 and a "refurbished" 650. The refurbished unit came in a generic looking box but both units looked mint. Both are excellent at the core business of giving directions - nice wide screen, text to speech, etc. Both units qualified for a free update to the 2009 city maps when registered with [...].

The 660 has an FM transmitter so you can listen to the MP3's over your car stereo, an FM traffic receiver that works for 30 days before the free trial runs out, and bluetooth phone integration. The FM transmitter and bluetooth are great, the FM traffic was ALWAYS wrong and so frustrating that I would have disabled it anyway.

The 650 was, for me, $[...] cheaper. So make your own call. For the price savings I recommend the reman/refurb units without reservation.
