1 out of 5 stars Good Product, But No Customer Service - Nextar   January 24, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I bought this GPS for my wife back in Sept 2007. Within a couple of weeks, the car dc adapter failed and I am still waiting to get a replacement. Nextar is totally incompetent in dealing with replacement parts and their customer service is terrible. Its not worth the frustration if your product fails. Nextar has an "F" on Better Business Bureau site. They deserve it. BUYER BEWARE !!

5 out of 5 stars Don't waste gas driving around trying to find your way   January 15, 2008
I purchased this as a gift to myself, because I am tired of wasting gas when in an area that is unfamiliar to me. My friends think it's fun riding with me. I've been told that they never know where we're going to end up. I don't like getting lost, so this is why I bought it. Works great so far. When in an area you are familiar with, there are a few short cuts you can take, however it does the job of directing you to your destination. I tested it by purposely not turning on the mile road it told me to and it reconfigured my trip and made all the necessary corrections on which way to turn and the point of arrival. It even knew when I pulled off to the side of the road, and told me to get back on the road and keep driving. Comes with everything you need. I love it!

Works like a charm. Very user friendly and intuitive. Don't spend more for the more expensive units. This one will do the trick.

4 out of 5 stars Santa brought me a GPS for xmas   January 7, 2008
Im a first time GPS user and I've had alot of fun with this Nextar so far.
Yes, its true the is a bit of a delay for it to "aquire a signal" but once it does, this is a great GPS.

The day after xmas I took a train from CA to WA so I brought it with me. It was neat to see the different options, clicking on the different points of interest in each area i was in- you can really learn alot about your surroundings. The GPS even picked up on the tracks and showed me where i was headed and when the train would be making sharp turns and whatnot- it was exciting!

The high point of this is the directions- they are RIGHT on the money
Also, its really easy to figure out and get started with.
The low point about this I would say is the delay on the signal...

Definitely worth the money- if I hadnt gotten it as a gift, I would have bought it. :)

Happy Mapping!

5 out of 5 stars Navigate though cities like a local   January 5, 2008
This GPS unit is well worth the money (about $150.00). For general use on the road the machine works very well. It makes me feel like a local person guiding me though cities and towns with ease. I am directed though small streets to connect to larger routes without the need to even glance at the machine. The "GPS Lady" (as my children refer to the voice) is loud and clear and keeps me in the correct lane as I approach intersections.

Some good sense must be used when choosing routes automatically. It does not hesitate to route me though the bad parts of towns where the murder rates are high. I still keep the Road Atlas handy and check the routes chosen by the GPS and modify them if I see fit.
I have saved the purchase price in gas and tolls in less than a month of use during our family vacation. It gets me quickly back onto the freeway when we exit for gas and routes me around toll booths and toll roads if I choose.

There seems to be no updates to the software or maps posted yet. I hope the Nextar folks will support the device as promised in the sales information. The MP3 player is very basic and will not work with the GPS feature concurrently (at least not well). The only choice is to play the songs in order or to shuffle The size of the supported SD card was not evident, when I called the Nextar help line they said it supported only 1GB SD cards and below. I was able to use a 2GB SD card without problems. The power cord for the car has a very stiff cord as others have mentioned but this is just a minor complaint.

I like this machine and am happy to have spent the money to purchase it.
