Absolutely the best for the $$$$$ November 3, 2007 WE are absolutely thrilled with this little GPS unit.....We RV full-time and have always relied on maps. This little unit does almost everything that we could even begin to need. Haven't been able to figure out rest stops on interstates. The book that comes with it sucks.......the website for Nextar sucks.....but the GPS itself is awesome. We had a lot of trial and error first time out because the book does not explain, but now that we have had it for a week travelling, we don't know how we made it across and US and back without it. P.S. We are older than dirt and not all that electronic savvy!!! LOL
Nextar C3 GPS November 2, 2007 I am extremely pleased with the Nextar C3. I have used a Garmin GPS V for several years and have to load the maps for each area I intend to travel to, which is a time-consuming ritual. With the Nextar, the maps are preloaded and it is ready to go right out of the box.
I was a little skeptical about what the performance would be for the price I paid ($167.50). The C3 has proved itself on several trips already and I couldn't be happier. It has accurately guided me, turn by turn, on both highways and country roads. When a turn is missed, it quickly recalculates the route and gets you to the destination.
Since I don't travel extensively, I couldn't justify spending $400 for a "pricier" model, and having the Nextar, I can see no reason to spend more for additional bells and whistles. It comes with the Navteq map set, although roads less than 4 years old may not be included. I live in a relatvely new subdivision which was built in 3 phases. Roads from Phase one are included, but not phase two or three.
Upon initial startup, it takes a few minutes to aquire satellites, but holds on to them once aquired and faithfully guides you from point to point.
The controls are intuitive and the POI database extensive, although it didn't include some of my favaorite eateries.
All in all, if you want a GPS that will get you there and back for a reasonable price, you can't go wrong with this unit.
Great GPS November 1, 2007 I thought this item would not be as accurate and quick as more expensive ones, but I am pleasantly surprised that this is very accurate as far as locating you, and very, very fast to correct a wrong turn and recalculate a new route. It takes some time to type destinations using the keypad in ABC format, but commonly used locations can be saved in memory (as far as I understand; at least HOME can be saved, with recent destinations saved). The unit warns you verbally and graphically of upcoming turns. I would highly recommend this to anyone afraid of getting lost, as long as you don't mind not hearing the name of the street you have to turn next at. You can take a quick glance at the top of the screen for the name, so it is one con I found. Otherwise a great value product.
Great for the price October 31, 2007 This has become my favorite new gadget. I have no doubt that a pricier GPS would have more and better features, but this one had the best price when I was searching, and does the job. I would prefer longer battery life (but it comes with car adapter so no problem), and it took a while to figure out how to persuade it that I wanted to bypass New York City via the Tappan Zee Bridge, but getting verbal directions beats the hell out of trying to read a map in the dark.
Piece of junk. It broke after 5 uses. October 30, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The product broke on me immediately right after 30 days...and I barely used it! I used it practically no more than a combined total of 7 days. I tried my best to just get a new unit but they refused and I had to spend money to send the unit into Nextar for repair. I just called Nextar today (10/29/2007) and they said that the estimated repair time will take approximately 3 to 5 weeks. Freaking great.
I believe one other reviewer experienced the same error message, which is "Fatal Error" and that's all she wrote.
I was initially attracted by the price and the good reviews. I thought it was a good idea when suddenly, the unit broke in the middle of the night while driving in the road to Hana in Maui. Your gps unit can't possibly break at a more convenient time that when taking hairpin turns at pitch black roads with drop dead cliffs on each side.
Final thoughts...you got a 50/50 chance with this product. Either you will receive a unit that has passed it's quality assurance testing or you may end up with a defective unit like mine and it immediately breaks after the refund period and then send it back to the manufacturer for repair...which will take anywhere between 3 to 5 weeks.
Lesson learned? I was better off spending the extra cash to buy brand that I've heard of than spend time with a headache.
I'll keep you all posted once I get the repaired unit back (as of 10/29/2007)
