The extra width was worth the extra dollars and the enhanced 3d effect is an improvement over the older TomTom One I own. If you need to hear the name of the street to turn on versus being told the distance to the next turn, then you will have to pay extra for the "text-to-speech" model. I personally don't have a problem reading the name of the street to turn onto from the bottom of the display.

I received a TomTom XL for Christmas. I love the size of the screen, and the easy out of the box setup. The navigation is simple to read and I like the turn by turn instructions.
Here's what I'd like see to improve the unit.
1. speaking of the street or highway you need to look for or turn to
2. support of my Apple iPhone, although the navigation has bluetooth, it won't connect to my iPhone
3. longer battery life, 2 hours isn't long enough
I like the unit, but if it cannot get traffic updates via bluetooth and my iPhone, I'll need to return it.

Satisfactory in all the important ways - my only negative reaction came after the second time the suction cup on the windshield let go and the unit tumbled (undamaged) onto the dashboard. I was advised to moisten the cup WITH SALIVA (not tap water), which inelegant suggestion seems to have solved the problem.
