Getting lost with a GPS December 22, 2007 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
This TomTom One XL is my first vehicle GPS. It does not recognize the street we live on. So far, I have tried to use it to navigate to 2 different locations and the recommended routes made no sense at all. The last time I used it, the suggested route added 15 miles to what should be an 8 mile trip. We plan to return it after only 3 days.

This is my second GPS and TomTom is very easy accurate and the user interface is great. Havent found a place it doesnt know about the visuals are excellent along with the voice commands. I dont want to spend time preping to go some where as I had to with my Magellian you can type on the fly (passangerr only) and your on you way. Highly recoment TomTom
was great for 2 weeks December 15, 2007 5 out of 11 found this review helpful
I recently moved to WI, way too many new roads and snow storms, so I treated myself with a GPS. The TomTom worked just great for a whole 2 weeks. Wow! Then it started acting funny: doesn't turn on when you press the power button, giving funny direction, doesn't sync with the PC, doesn't recognizes my blue-tooth cell, and worst of all: It lost its satellited connection .
After buying the premium coverage from Best Buy, they told me I can get a new one, but of course they didn't have any more of this model only cheaper things without streets names or new models, which are way more expansive.
All and all, apparently, after trying the Tom Tom and the Navigon (which didn't work to begin with) I learn that they all suck if you end up buying something cheaper than $600, best bet? Map Quest...
It works but the garmin is the better unit. December 13, 2007 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
First I bought the Garmin nuvi 200 I was very impressed except it did not have canada pre-loaded so I paid the restock fee instead of ordering the sd card and got the ONE XL I thought the bigger screen would be nice it turns out even though the nuvi has a smaller screen the information is stratigicly placed for minimal impact to the screen- the Tom Tom looks and functions like a generation behind Garmin with the huge information bar and no way to minimize it - it take up 20% of the screen. Any way that is only the tip of the iceburg although I use the tom tom and don't plan to take it back and pay another restock fee I have recomended the Garmin to everyone I have talked to.
Tom Tom One XL 4.3 inch Screen December 7, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Unit worked when opened. A few days later the program froze and could not be reset even with the reset button hidden by the SD slot. I bought it for a trip and did not have use of the unit for the trip because of the defect. I had to incur the extra expense of shipping the unit back to the factory. Tom Tom should have taken care of that. I will probably not buy from them again.
