5 out of 5 stars Great GPS   March 27, 2008

I had a GPS before and I was often disappointed with it. It had an external antenna and always had problems getting a signal. Also it had a poor POI database. The Garmin Vista is awesome it has not ceased to amaze me. I do wish that Garmin included city nav with it because without the extra maps it is useless. But i use it driving geocashing and hiking with topo 2008 and national parks east 24K.

5 out of 5 stars Very Accurate   March 25, 2008
Best features are the USB PC interface cable and high sensitivity to receive signals even in heavy forest canopy. Garmin's warranty is also fantastic. I accidentally broke the lanyard attachment on the case and they replaced my GPS under warranty. Took 3 business days for the turn around.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent GPS receiver for Geocaching   March 22, 2008

I was just recently introduced to the hobby of Geocaching by a relative and enjoyed it very much. My wife and I decided to purchase a GPS receiver of our own. After much review, I narrowed my choice down to the Garmin Vista HCX and the Garmin 60CXS.

Both of the devices are excellent and will probably come down personal preferences concerning button placement and how they "feel" in your hand. I can tell you that you would be pleased with either.

I chose the HCX for the following reasons.

Extremely quick and accurate satellite acquisition.

Very bright and readable screen.

Convenient geocaching options makes it fun and easy to use.

Price is very good for the performance and features you get.

As far as shopping through Amazon goes, I continue to be delighted, purchase after purchase, with how efficiently the process runs. I have never been as thoroughly satisfied with any merchant as I have been in my dealings with Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent in flight reception   March 19, 2008
So far it has worked fine with a good reception signal. I used the other day in a plane and was so cool. I could see where I was in the default world map, the altitude (GPS Altitude), my speed my distance to destiny and the time to destiny. Beside I could draw the exact trajectory of the flight (COOL). But be aware that to do that I was near a window not in the center groups of seats, where during my return flight I could not get a signal.

1 out of 5 stars eTrex trash   March 8, 2008

eTrex has been a disappointment. I own 2 Garmin Nuvi 350s and love them. I ordered eTrex Vista HCx for my mountain bike. It would not allow me to unlock the "City Select North America v7" map (that comes with Nuvi). Their tech support told me to return the unit (at my cost!), and they would send me a refurbished unit.

The refurbished unit would not operate on battery power. It was fine when plugged into my laptop via the USB port. I noticed there is a design flaw in their battery compartment. They designed in a brace that prevents the right-hand AA battery from making contact on the + end. I called tech support and they told me to send it in, and they would send me a new unit. I asked them to send me the new unit first and pay my return shipping, but they refused. I am not happy!

Sidenote: Their tech support did answer the phone right away and seemed to be USA-based. They were helpful with trouble-shooting, but not in overall satisfaction with fixing my problem. And it takes 2-3 weeks to get a replacement unit each time.
