Love It June 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have bad sense of direction and I also travel a lot. I live in the middle of nowhere and can happily live here knowing that I can drive somewhere else! The problem has been that I have a great sense of adventure and a horrible sense of direction. A bad combination in this day of horribly high gas prices. So I got a GPS with the belief that it would pay for itself with the money I save in gas!
I read all the other reviews so I knew to test it out around town before I took with me on vacation to Florida. It was close enough. It has problems with service roads. It wants to put you on the main road but I could see that I wasn't on the main road. It can't find the Panera in town, although it has been here several years, and once driving from Miami to Orlando it told me that the gas station was in five miles. The gas station was 10 miles north, and then another five miles south after you turned off of the exit ramp. Of course that was crazy, since the tank was empty, but I saw the other closer gas stations. Oh and in giving me directions it, of course, doesn't take into account the neighborhoods I'm driving through (that I would rather not drive through). All that being said, I LOVE IT!! I've named her Lucy. Lucy and I sometimes argue but in what relationship do you get along 100%? So far the problems I have just require a little common sense on my part and a few "recalculating" on her part and we are on our way.
The big screen is perfect for those of us over 40. Perfect. The lighting is good and my favorite feature is that it will give you an estimated time of arrival. For someone who is always late that is a great, great, great feature. I also like the "points of interest". Lucy can even point me to the nearest outlet mall. I'm not sure how much money I'll save this way, but I would rather spend it on a pair of shoes than a tank of gas!!
Now I have to go find Lucy a case.
My GPS June 10, 2008 Product arrived preloaded with an old map of the US. To install an updated map Garmin forces you to purchase a download cable at a high price (10% of the GPS purchase price). Additional problem: take a few moments to identify unit location. My other GPS does it at a fraction of the time.
Problem with Nuvi June 9, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I returned my Nuvi 250 widescreen because it was unable to find satellites, and gave wrong directions any time it was in a larger city. That was when I needed it most. It was also unable to locate restaurants and other points of interest. I was quite disappointed. CM
nuvi 200W June 9, 2008 I have been very satisfied with this GPS. The screen is the perfect size and the price was right. My only complaint is how outdated the maps are. We have been living in our present house for 4 years. Our Garmin does not know this street exists, let alone there are 20 houses on it!
Great Functionality June 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought this GPS unit specifically to help with navigation for a trip from North Carolina through New York City. It worked flawlessly to get us up the New Jersey I95 corridor. We loved the 'exit right, keep left' directions as it kept us prepared for which lane to be in. We were not interested in bluetooth or MP3 and this is just what we wanted. As an aside, we were on Bald Head Island, NC this weekend. We brought the Garmin 200W along, just for fun. Transportation on the island is via golf cart as no cars are allowed. All of the streets on the island are readily identified. Fabulous! We couldn't be more pleased with the function and the value.
