Surprised December 9, 2007 24 out of 29 found this review helpful
I bought this GPS for my second car. For my other car we bought the TomTom. We got a great deal on this model and thought that Garmin had a great name in GPS and decided to take a chance. Bad Choice - I was very surprised at the inaccuracy of the Garmin compared to TomTom. If I was going to the same place 5 times, I would get 5 different directions. After 1 month of getting lost and frustrated, I returned this item and went back to TomTom. I have to say I was very surprised with Garmin and Disappointed. Positives - Great window suction mount average battery life ease of use Size of unit Large Screen
Negatives Accuracy of directions screen does not keep up with driving - Many times screen would fall behind where I was on screen causing me to miss turns
Hope this review is helpful! You need to decide what is most important to you when buying a GPS
Garmin nuvi 250W GPS December 7, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I already have a high-end Garmin so I had the opportunity to compare many features and performance. The Out Of The Box experience was great - everything worked as advertised. The map was current, all the Points Of Interest were correct, and directions were spot-on and almost identical to my other unit. The wide screen is very nice and the size and portability are a nice change from my other one (which is large and needs to be plugged in - no batteries). Easily carries in a briefcase for business trips.
It does not say street names - which I like but not a huge deal. The only other two negatives are 1) it had trouble with satellites in cities with tall buildings, as they all seem to do and 2) although showing pictures on it (via the SD memory card) is really cool, it is very slow to index through the pictures and change between them (although the slideshow features masks this and is neat).
Overall its a great unit if you're looking to not spend too much, have a large screen and can live without playing MP3's and some other features it's missing, especially given the price you can find it for online.
Good GPS with large display November 26, 2007 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is my first GPS. The display is large, clear and bright. I always get signal, but then, I vent tried it in very remote places or in city. The POI is a bit outdated. Its possible to add new POI databases from other sources, so Im fine with it.

I bought this product because I was moving to a new town, in a new state. With the built in POI's, and the accuracy of the directions, not to mention the recalculating capabilities, this has been a GREAT buy.
Good value for the price November 22, 2007 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
When I accidentally ran over my first Nuvi 250W, I did not want to use that as an excuse to get a different model. I got a second 250W. It does not have bluetooth (for that I have my phone and my hands-free kit), it does not have an MP3 player (I have couple of iPods and I cannot imagine the sound quality of any GPS system coming close to a dedicated MP3 player), and it does not spell out the names of the streets (I can read, thank you). What it has, however, is what I need from a GPS system - no frills navigation. It is very accurate, I really like the algorithm that governs the routing function, and It even predicts my arrival times within +/- few minutes. Since I had no plans to subscribe to any traffic radio service, absence of that function does not affect me at all.
All in all, I really like my 250W. If it had a shortcut to go back to the "MAP" from any other level of the menu, this would be the perfect unit.
