a good GPS December 23, 2007 quick response. can find almost all the roads and streets. But sometime it chooses a stupid route.
white screen of death December 21, 2007 10 out of 14 found this review helpful
brand new and waited weeks to get it. Every time you power off and then power on you get white screen. then you need to reset and things are OK until next power off. what a great Christmas gift!
Nice basic unit December 21, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bought just before a long trip (1200 miles roundtrip). First GPS navigation experience. The unit was easy to use - learned on the way by experimentation. It nailed all destinations I entered - hotel, church, homes. Also, I used the POI function to find Shell gas stations several times - this is a really nice function if the POI you are looking for is in the unit.
Things I don't like: 1) the unit appears to use 55 mph as the driving speed when calculating the time remaining - not very realistic for interstate driving. 2) the scale of the map view in driving mode does not appear to be permanently settable. Normal view is only about 0.5 miles ahead, in 2D and 3D modes - you can scale out easily, but after about 10 seconds, it zooms back in. There are other ways to see segments of your route, but none that continuously update your position (that I have found yet.) I have asked about both of these in the forum discussions for this product, so maybe someone else knows if these are changeable.
My wife would like traffic updates and text-to-speech. I don't care so much about TTS because you can set the unit up to display the next street name at the bottom of the screen. Traffic would be nice, but for $150 (on sale), what do you expect?
Bottom line - for $150 (I wouldn't buy at full price), it seems to be a very nice basic navigation system that is easy to use and fairly accurate.

After waiting 2 weeks of this TomTom One 3rd Edition as a Christmas present - received unit has a "white screen" problem. You have to reset it EVERY time you switch it on, otherwise it hangs up and shows white screen of death. According to the tomtomforums a lot of people are having the same problem and are VERY disappointed! Google it "tomtom white screen" before you buy or make a defective present to your relative on Christmas. Sad.
TomTom Go December 20, 2007 6 out of 21 found this review helpful
Our TomTom Go, purchased in late December, 2004, never worked as well as hyped. It had lots of fun voices and modes, but the map content was old and not updated while our unit was working. Customer service was not helpful when our unit froze. The TomTom Go was a huge waste of our money.
