does not have the latest software to the roads or house numbers. takes too long to acquire the satelite signal. does not speak the name of the road that you have to turn on.

4 out of 5 stars I really like my TomTom 3rd Edition GPS!   April 12, 2008

This is my first handheld GPS unit. I was very pleased with TomTom's ability to get me where I'm going successfully and also liked how TomTom's maps are updatable for free on the internet (not all GPS maps are). I found the selection of free voices at their website fun, and I chose an australian accent for my unit. I tried to use TomTom while camping and walking in a big downtown city, but it directed me out of my way and couldn't understand I was not in a car (I didn't see a walking or biking mode in it's options). Also, in San Francisco the tall buildings seemed to interfere with TomTom's ability to find the GPS satellites; however, I still had the map on my unit and could find my way. Even with these shortfalls, I really love my TomTom and would recommend it to anyone as an easy way to always know where you are and where you're heading.

4 out of 5 stars Does What You Need It to Do   April 11, 2008
Yes there are GPS devices with more features but who cares about features you would rarely use when this Tom Tom One Gets you to where you are going for about $150 or Less? It is easy to set up out of the box, has free updates for a year and has found every POI ( Restaurants ) I wished to add to my favorite list. I have used it for 2 weeks and never been given a wrong turn although sometimes you may disagree with its route it plans for you which is easily correctable. Bottom Line is if You Need a Decent Basic GPS with all of what a GPS is made for get this one. You won't find many at twice the price that Have as many points of intrest. Only Con is weak battery life of about 2 hours.

2 out of 5 stars If tomtom tells you to turn left, then turn right.   April 11, 2008

I have had this for 6 months now and have been often disappointed. The only good thing about this is the price.
The maps are so outdated that it does not show my home street, that was built in 2003. POIs are outdated for the NW Arkansas region.
No out of the box support for music and videos though third party softwares can turn this into a very good video player. But the capacity being 1 Gb out of which 950 MB is taken by mapping software, you are left with 30 mins for videos, with no way to expand storage space.
Spend few dollars more and go for one that doubles up as a video player and has more recent maps.
Finally my tomtom one has taken me to more middle of nowhere destinations that I didnot intend to visit and has made me a better navigator relying on my instincts.
If tomtom tells you to turn left, then turn right.

Wonderful... Don't know how I got along without it. I am a Hospice Nurse who works mostly at night and The Tom Tom has been the best thing I've ever purchased relating to my Job. It takes me directly to the address I need which is very nice in the middle of the night ... I would recommend this product to all my friends and I have...
