What I expected May 9, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had the nuvi 260 for a little over a month and have had no problems or surprises. Garmin has packed a lot of information into this little package with many useful p.o.i's. This came in handy on a recent trip to the North Fork of Long Island and the wine country up there. There was an almost complete list of the vineyards as well as a very handy ATM listing. Some reviewers have rightly pointed out that the maps are sometimes out of date (not the case in the North Fork) and that it would be even better with improved route editing capabilities but i'm very satisfied with product. It is compact, mostly accurate and easy to use. What more can you ask for?
Great machine May 8, 2008 I bought this for driving as a tourist in L.A. and found it to be excellent. Careful when near express lanes as some are prepaid and if you don't have a pass it could present a problem. Highly recommend the text to speech model over a base model. Worked really well during a trip to San Diego from the desert as well.
Truly An AMAZING Product! May 7, 2008 I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 260 after doing quite a bit of online and in-store research. I didn't need all of the bells and whistles of the more costly models (mp3 player, bluetooth, real-time traffic updates, etc.), and my main reason for purchasing this brand versus a Tom Tom or Magellan was that Garmin had pre-programmed maps of Southeast Asia, and Malaysia in particular (for about $116 on the Garmin site). The other brands had Europe and Australia covered, but nothing in Southeast Asia. While I live in New York City, I brought my Nuvi 260 to Malaysia earlier in 2008, and used it successfully to navigate from the fairly remote village of Jenjarom, Malaysia to the J W Marriott Hotel in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. No problems at all... great directions and travel information (speed, estimated arrival time, maps, etc.). This is truly an amazing product that's fun (and very very useful) to use. I couldn't recommend it more highly. The only problem was that the children in my wife's family thought this was a cool toy to play with, so I had to keep my eyes on it at all times!
Best in terms of May 7, 2008 I researched 2 days before the purchase. This has all the functions that you use in the car, without unnecessary stuff. 1) Text speech-to-Street is a must, and this unit has it. There is a huge difference between "turn left" and "turn left in the fifth ave, and this unit tells you the street name. This is one of recent model so 2) design is slim and cool. 3) It has good battery life, too. It also have a function to simulate your route on the unit. When I travel to the complicated area, I use this simulator before I leave to get familiar with the route. You can even change icons using web, so my Garmin 260 has "American Jack" (male) voice and vehecle icon is an american football. You have to pay additional dollar, but I strongly recommend you to buy friction dashboard mount (with this, you don't have to attach it to the window using suction, letting the whole world to know you own GPS). Arriving at my destination, I simply remove from the portable mount and carry it within my purse (It is smaller than your palm). When my husband use it, he puts Garmin 260 next to him along with coffee mug, and he just listens to direction, without looking to the screen. In that case, wide screen is not worth to pay extra money. I bought both AC connector and car charger, but having a car charger is enough. I hope this helps.
Garmin 260 May 6, 2008 We have two new luxury cars (different manufactures) with navigation systems. The Garmin 260 is easier to use than either one of the factory units. It is easy to enter a destination and it easy to follow the verbal instructions. The POI function is better than the factory units. I bought the Garmin to use in rental cars, but often use it as a backup for the factory units.Garmin nüvi 260 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
