GPS Navigator May 12, 2008 I didn't want to buy another tech gadget but I am glad I purchased this one. I truly love it! Very easy to use right out of the box. No instructions that require a PhD to interpret and assemble. Very user friendly and idiot proof.
Not perfect, but very good. May 9, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Garmin nuvi 260 is fairly intuitive and easy to use. The text-to-speech makes it very easy to verify that you are making turns at the correct street. Some drawbacks: the enunciation is not always clear (eg - Ailine Drive for Airline Drive); it will take a shorter route with lights when a quicker, but slightly longer, route exists; when driving on the interstate or major highway, it will tell you to go left or right to stay on the current interstate or highway when an exit for another interstate or major highway is coming up (this can be annoying when you are passing through a city and would not normally get off the interstate or highway you are traveling on unless told to do so). It takes a little exploring to learn some of the features. All in all it makes it easier to get around when you don't know a city or area very well.
What I expected May 9, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had the nuvi 260 for a little over a month and have had no problems or surprises. Garmin has packed a lot of information into this little package with many useful p.o.i's. This came in handy on a recent trip to the North Fork of Long Island and the wine country up there. There was an almost complete list of the vineyards as well as a very handy ATM listing. Some reviewers have rightly pointed out that the maps are sometimes out of date (not the case in the North Fork) and that it would be even better with improved route editing capabilities but i'm very satisfied with product. It is compact, mostly accurate and easy to use. What more can you ask for?
Great machine May 8, 2008 I bought this for driving as a tourist in L.A. and found it to be excellent. Careful when near express lanes as some are prepaid and if you don't have a pass it could present a problem. Highly recommend the text to speech model over a base model. Worked really well during a trip to San Diego from the desert as well.
Truly An AMAZING Product! May 7, 2008 I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 260 after doing quite a bit of online and in-store research. I didn't need all of the bells and whistles of the more costly models (mp3 player, bluetooth, real-time traffic updates, etc.), and my main reason for purchasing this brand versus a Tom Tom or Magellan was that Garmin had pre-programmed maps of Southeast Asia, and Malaysia in particular (for about $116 on the Garmin site). The other brands had Europe and Australia covered, but nothing in Southeast Asia. While I live in New York City, I brought my Nuvi 260 to Malaysia earlier in 2008, and used it successfully to navigate from the fairly remote village of Jenjarom, Malaysia to the J W Marriott Hotel in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. No problems at all... great directions and travel information (speed, estimated arrival time, maps, etc.). This is truly an amazing product that's fun (and very very useful) to use. I couldn't recommend it more highly. The only problem was that the children in my wife's family thought this was a cool toy to play with, so I had to keep my eyes on it at all times!
