4 out of 5 stars Easy, accurate, pleasant   August 31, 2008

We've been using this GPS for 2 months. It is very easy to operate, it has not steered me wrong yet, except for some misunderstandings when I thought it wanted me to exit the freeway when it indicated a turn was coming, when actually it was alerting me to stay ON the freeway because a merge was coming. Now that I am used to it, I enjoy it very much. It gives enough warning before turns and it is very helpful to hear the street name again. It is easy to program my favorites and pick multiple destinations. We like "Karen"'s voice the best. It is small enough to carry around in my purse, rather than leave it in the car, so I can program it inside.

5 out of 5 stars Great clear display with awesome accuracy   August 29, 2008
As expected, Garmin has put out a nice product here. The screen is bright in all types of light, the ease of use is a plus and the windshield mount, though the unit tends to jiggle when you press on the screen, holds up rather nicely in different temperatures.

When I opened up the box, there it was, rested and ready to go. I picked it up and held it gently in both hands and took it outside on the deck to capture the satellites and reposition it internally. I went through all the menus and programed it to my likings. Went back inside the house and plugged it into the USB and uploaded all the saved routes from my Garming eTrex HCX.

Everything was going well. The routes all went into the unit as desired except that I had to adjust the names on a few of the routes since the 760 has more character capacity for route names.

I have now had the unit for about 3 weeks and the operation and display have been superb.

FAULTS:
If you upload Custom POAs, expect the unit to lock up on you from time to time. I only happens on occasion but none the less it is annoying. I have contacted Garmin about it and there seem to be other users that have had this experience.

While on a course/navigational route, your vehicle speed is not displayed and you can not change the default displays on the main map screen. ie: Time to next, ETA, time to final destination, arrival time and so on.... You can on the eTrex HCX which is a smaller unit.

You can not get a quick view of the satellites. You have to touch and hold the satellite bars on the top left to obtain their stats along with altitude. (Altitude on this unit is based on true Altitude, the HCX is based on barometric altitude).

While the unit is mounted on the windshield mount, it has a bit of play when you press on the screen of the unit to navigate.

Unit does take a bit of time to capture/locate satellites at a new location.(cold start). It looses the signal more frequently under foliage or tall buildings than the HCX which is a hand held unit.

Transferring data to the optional card is much faster when using an external card reader. Unit is only USB 1.1 not the updated 2.0 or 2.1.

No instruction manual. You have to play with the option menus till you learn them precisely. Otherwise you'll be searching when you least have the time to do so.

POSITIVES:
Can handle large memory SD and microSD cards. Currently I have a 4Gig microSD and it works great.

The sound on the unit's single speaker sounds clear and the optional voices make it easier to choose a voice that you can understand.

FM signal to use through car's speakers works great. If you have interference, just perform an 'Auto Scan' and it will find another frequency to use. The sound is clear and you would never know it was coming from the unit.

The graphics are stupendous. I love the 'On Right/Left' announcement when you're reaching your destination. Rids you of guessing on which side of the street your address is on.

Single point data transfer and charge through the mini USB. Most manufacturers are heading this way.

5mm audio jack for a personal headset if you want to use the unit as a media player while on a train/plane ride.

Phone Bluetooth connection works like a charm. Great navigational menu options for your phone.

DISAPPROVE:
Garmin fails to provide you with a carry pouch.... not even a cheap one.

FINAL COMMENTS:
A great unit with great functionality. Accurate directions, clear map software and a bright display. I started out with the Garmin Street Pilot which had shades of gray on an orange back lit display and this is definitely an improvement.

5 out of 5 stars garmin 760   August 29, 2008
I am someone who could get lost in his back yard, so the garmin 760 is a miracle of technology for me. It gets me where I'm going and allows me to talk on my cell phone hands free. Occassionally it will tell me that the location is on the wrong side of the street but I'm right there and can figure it out for myself. I love it and can't believe I lived without it.

4 out of 5 stars Great product   August 29, 2008
I love my new Garmin 760; it is fast, accurate, and has great graphics. The search feature is spot on & has plenty of categories to narrow down your choices. I first bought a Navigon, then sent it back- it was insanely slow. The only two downsides to this are:
1- It doesn't take verbal commands...all of these things will be able to do that in the next couple years, I just couldnt wait, nor pay $999 for the next model up.
2- If youre used to NeverLost from Hertz, this thing is going to annoy you since it doesn't 'ding' or 'chime' when youre suppose to take an action.

4 out of 5 stars A little disappointing   August 28, 2008

I didn't give 5 stars (actually would have preferred 3.5) because the BlueTooth doesn't work with my phone (Treo 680) although I got it to function, it makes my device lock up after the call and I have to take out the battery. Also the speaker isn't that great and callers told me I sound like I'm down in a well. I'd have been better off buying the 750 for about $200 less!!

The other features are fine and I like the traffic report function. MP3 sounds okay and the picture viewer works well too.
