 Excellent GPS Unit - Great Value August 24, 2008
I bought this unit about a month ago. It is very very good. No problems with routing in the city and on the highway (see exceptions below). The route calculation is done very quickly and it recalculates quickly too if you take a turn not on the original route. I've also found the "Detour" option helpful when I've been stuck in construction zone traffic.
I especially like the Custom POI feature. It allows you to put in your own way point/Points of Interest. There is excellent third party software for doing this (see http://geepeeex.googlepages.com).
On the other hand, I was disappointed that the included mapping software is vintage 2008 and the upgrade to 2009 will cost an extra $55. Seems like that should have been included. I also have found that in my travels out west that I do get the occasional misrouting, for example, I've had routes that suggest using a private dirt road instead of the paved public street or sent down roads that dead end. I don't think this can be avoided but it pays to remember that this can happen if you are off the beaten path.

This IS the unit to buy! I went to Chicigo two days ago and it routed me around all the traffic back ups!!! It is fantastic!!!
Awesome GPS unit - a great tool August 23, 2008
The Nuvi 760 is not perfect - no GPS unit is. But this is the best I have encountered. The user interface is so simple that a manual is not required. I tested it out on routes in my home town that I know well. It does not always reccomend the route that I would take, but it always gets me to my destination - and when I am in a stragne town, that is what really matters!
I've been astonished at what is included in the points of interest database.
The "where am I" feature actually saved me from a long walk! I was on a road trip, I had just left Coeur d'alene, ID and I forgot to gas up. I soon as I was out in the boonies I realized my mistake. I used the "where am I" feature and it showed me a little gas station just off the freeway that I never would have found. Very cool.
The only thing that I don't like is that it is a little hard to snap the unit into the holder on the dash. This is minor point and overall I would reccomend this unit and would purchase it again.

Purchased The Garmin Nuvi 760 and couldn't be happier it's worth the extra money. Took a trip from NY to VA to NJ then back to NY and it performed flawlessly. The bluetooth works well and makes it a breeze to talk hands free.

I received this 8/19/2008 the day just before my vacation. This is a quality product but I find that the owners manual has a lot to be desired and most of the uses of this GPS are learned from just playing around with it. So I would suggest using it around your area before going on a trip. Once you do get to where you are going you can not just reverse the directions to get back unless you have home setup and then it wants to set its own route unless you have added Via Points. I imported a map from MapQuest and after importing it into the GPS it changed the route I picked and until I added the points it would not take my route but kept taking either a quicker or shorter route. Most of the complaints that I have read are from just not knowing how to use it. But you can not get lost from using this GPS as it will always direct you back on course and you can not shut this feature off that I can find. The program has alot of POI that came in handy but I haven't been able to figure out how to add more that you either see or have used or been to and it would be a good feature to have and the ones that you can download wasn't very many or useful. Also if you have a route open and then close it completely I have not been able to figure out how to return to the route from where it left off so I just made a new route and started again that way..But I like the GPS and would buy another one, just remember to play with it before you go on you trip or you will be cussing it out..As for the MP3 player it is just a simple player and it works as it should and I used it through the car speakers also. I put six albums on a SDHC card and inserted it into the unit so they would not be in the unit itself and listened to them that way.. When I stopped somewhere I just popped it out of the on dash holder and put it into my pocket and took it with me..It would have been nice if they at least would have add a game or two so you would get more use out of the unit and to give you something to do while waiting somewhere..Cheers...Keithmj
