Road Test-Nuvi 760 Saves Time,Gas and Money August 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this Nuvi 760 through Amazon in late June 2008.The unit and ordered accessories arrived in good condition as all these items were carefully packed with more than adequate packing materials.
I was able to give this Nuvi 760 a real road test on a recent multi-state vacation trip in July 2008.The unit performed quite well in selecting a route and proved particularly useful in guiding us through several very complex interchanges. This unit prompts you well in advance of these upcoming exits allowing plenty of time to ease over to the proper lane
We were not prepared for the closure of I-40 around Knoxville,Tennesee as the closed section encompassed the exitwe needed to reach the road to Pigeon Forge. We were detoured to downtown Knoxville and in a matter of seconds the Nuvi 760 recalculated and plotted a new route. This saved us lots of agony as we did not have to stop and ask(and hopefully receive) directions or otherwise make a wrong turn in an unfamiliar area.
Once in Pigeon Forge, the Nuvi 760 easily fit into my shirt pocket and proved very useful with the extensive points of interest database in locating many of the dining, shopping and attraction venues we visited. Especially useful were the occasions where we rode the Pigeon Forge trolleys and the Nuvi 760 gave plenty of notice as we approached our desired destination so that I could pull the stop requested cable.
I did order several accessories with this Nuvi 760:
Garmin Carrying Case for Nüvi 660 Portable GPS Navigator (010-10823-01)- A leather carrying case that proved useful in protecting the Nuvi 760 from the humidity as it traveled about in my front shirt pocket. This case is open on one end so on a rainy day I inserted the open end first into my shirt pocket and the unit stayed dry.My only regret is the unit is a bit heavy for a front shirt pocket.I do wish this case had come with a belt loop of some sort.
Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for Nüvi Series and StreetPilot C5XX Series GPS Navigators (C530, C550 and C580.... The Nuvi 760 comes with a windshield mounting disk, but being a veteran of several windshield mounted rear-view mirrors coming loose while driving,I elected to go with this dahboard mount.Glad I did as this mount is heavy enough to stay in place and does not slide due to the "no slip" material on the base.I really like the ability to custom adjust the unit .I can say that even driving over several bumpy roads, that unit stayed in place as I had originally adjusted it.
Not The Best System August 7, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have been trying to use my new GPS from Washington State back to my home on the east coast. It is sort of useful on the main roads but when I get into towns to use it the system has quiet a few problems. The gps has tried to get me to go down phantom roads that do not exist yet it shows on the gps, also twice so far it gave me directions to go down one interstate and cross over the bridge to get to the other side and then it has me to cross the overpass to go back down the side I just came up.
I tried to use it to find a hotel last night and the hotel was 25 miles from where the gps said it was located. The hotel people said they have seen that problem all the time from people using gps.
For the 400.00 I paid for the system - I have definately made sure to have my atlas in the vehicle with me. The other big problem with the system is the delete button is to accessable to where you can accidentally erase your planned route to easily. I would definately look for a different gps than this one.
Seems like a fine GPS August 6, 2008 We've taken this unit on a couple trips now and really like it. It is our first GPS so we're admittedly novices, and still learning how to use it effectively. I liked the size and ease of reading the maps and font. The directions were clear and timely. I like being able to see how far I have to go and an ETA. It got us where we wanted to go, confidently.
My sense is that some of the bells and whistles are not that attractive. I don't think I'd want to listen to music being played from its little speakers. When you play music or audio books back through the car's audio system, the sound is scratchy, and you lose the use of the sound system's radio/CD player. The bluetooth capability to my cell phone seemed to work ok, but you still have to take your eyes off the road.
So far though, I have no regrets about purchasing this GPS at the right price point. I would not pay full price however.
Best GPS Yet! August 4, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Garmin Nuvi 760 is the absolute best unit I have ever used, and the Amazon price cannot be matched anywhere, Simple to use and easy to learn. Don't waste your time on other units. This one ROCKS!
great gps August 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very handy, especially in urban areas you're not familiar with. In the country, it's not as savvy, but still very helpful. The bluetooth feature that transmits phone through your FM radio is very helpful, unless you can't find an unused fm channel. Easy to use.
