4 out of 5 stars Slow system, Very user friendly...!   August 1, 2008
1 out of 2 found this review helpful

This system is at times very slow to load and get you going in a open view of the Sat's.

Also, it does not come with a owners manual...! You have to down load this 75 page book via the WEB. The system is very user friendly and easy to use...!

Also:
To use on the trail for navigation, very hard to read or view in the sun.

Just don't be in a rush to get up and go...Mike

4 out of 5 stars More good than bad   August 1, 2008

I have had this GPS for almost a month now (upgrade from Garmin c330)

Good

Physical- It is really an attractive unit, thin, light but solid and black finish on the front. Bright screen that doesn't blind you at night and is clear at all times of the day.

Bluetooth- I didn't think I would ever need this feature but so far it has been great! It rings at the same time my phone rings (no delay) no trouble at all. People hear me loud and clear and I hear them the same!

Navigation- Only a few issues so far (I'll describe in a bit). Quick to get signals, pretty accurate, shaved some time off my trips. Announces which side destination is on, when I was shopping around I found out TomTom does not. No delays in between menus or functions, no pauses to "think" unit is smooth and well powered (cpu).

Voice- Pretty robotic but not many pronunciation mistakes.

Mount- Strong and yet takes up very little space. No vibration no noise.

Garmin website- easy to navigate easy to add/remove features and subscriptions. Haven't experienced but from what I hear/read Garmin's customer service is good.

BAD

FM transmitter- Pretty useless. I loaded a SD card with some mp3s to take on the road. It's kind of lame to play out of the speaker of the unit so I enabled the FM transmitter. It is muffled with a hint of static at the BEST of times. I'm not sure how it stacks up to other units but to save the disappointment pretend like it doesn't have that feature.

Navigation- Almost sent me up a one way street and down a dead end so far (with 2009 map update). These units should be used as a helpful guide don't depend on it or trust it too much.

Traffic- Hit or miss at best (free 3 month subscription with purchase).

POIs- Search function is slow and lacking some updated info. A lot of the time the stores I search for are not found or one time it finds it and when I get there the store is no longer there?!?! (Dunkin Donuts) Strange.

OVERALL

This unit is definitely a BUY. What I learned while shopping around all these units have Pros and Cons, what you don't want to do is end up with unit that can't do the core function, GIVE DIRECTIONS! This is my 2nd Garmin and it really is a high-end device. 4 Stars.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Great   August 1, 2008

I drive 60K miles a year for work and this is my 2nd GPS. I love that it tells you the speed limit of the road you're on. Great database and easy menus. Very intuitive and easy to use. I have the FM traffic option but I'm not sure how accurate it is, but... neither is any traffic reporting service I have ever seen. It nicely detours you around traffic congestion. I have no complaints whatsoever. Mine came with a free map update, which was a 9G download. You will like this unit... no disappointments.

This unit is great and worth every penny. I went to Williamsburg, VA to take care of my two grandsons, 7 and 4, while my son and his wife went away. I was able to get so many places without any difficulty using the navigator. I would put in an address for where I wanted to go and it would take me there without any problems...once there, I would press add it to favorites and there it would be if we wanted to go there again. I was there a total of 11 days and every day I used the navigator as we routinely hiked 2-3 miles every morning, home for lunch and then in the afternoon and evening off for adventure. I would recommend this unit to all.
