5 out of 5 stars Easy to use and reliable   October 13, 2008
This is my first GPS and I was surprised how easy it was to use the Garmin nuvi 760. Took it on a recent trip to northern Wisconsin and was grateful that it was so reliable because all those county roads can be so confusing.

4 out of 5 stars Garmin 760 Evaluation   October 13, 2008
Unit seems to operate very well, however the VOICE instructions are .2 to .3 miles (late) when moving at interstate speeds. On surface streets the instructions are still late, but this is a very small error to overcome. Takes some getting used to. Spoken street names are very helpful. The printed display is right on and correct in every way as far as I can tell. Very good! Recalculation is very speedy and accurate. Good user interface, very friendly. Great display. All in all an excellent unit. For the update, would suggest getting the CD, as the time required over the internet is very long.

5 out of 5 stars very happy   October 13, 2008
Very happy with this product. Lots of great features. Bluetooth doesn't work terrific yet but maybe I was in a bad area.

3 out of 5 stars Lousy MP3 player   October 12, 2008

Don't get me wrong. I love this GPS. But the reason I bought the 760 was to get an MP3 player that supports SD cards. I'm tired of lugging around my expensive CD collection and wanted to leave the CD's at home and bring my music along on SD cards. For some unknown reason, MP3 players NEVER support external memory.

All I can say is that I hope Garmin someday pays as much attention to the MP3 player as they did to the GPS, because the MP3 player is crap.

Can you imagine a music player that insists on playing Sgt. Pepper in alphabetical order? Or if you say you want to hear some Beatles, it gives you a list of every song from every Beatle album, in ALPHABETICAL ORDER? The guy who wrote this thing either has a tin ear, or he's some teenager who get's all his music one top-40 song, a buck at a time from iTunes. It's an embarrassment.

And the other thing is that it ONLY supports MP3 format. Naturally, all my music is ripped to WMA, since it's a far superior format. So I downloaded a converter and kicked off a conversion of my entire WMA library to MP3. 8 hour's later it finished, but what previously fit into 1.5 gigabytes would now not fit on an 8G SD card. So I had to reduce the bit rate until I found a rate that produced something I could stand to listen to and also fit into 8G. And then I discovered the lousy MP3 player.

The best thing Garmin could do would be to get MS to port Windows Media Player to the Nuvi. I'd actually pay for the download.

Oh, and by the way, the other thing that made the Nuvi so attractive was the built-in FM transmitter. I don't know why they bothered. It's so low-powered that the sound quality is useless for music.

I'll give them one thing -- they make a great GPS. But I could have got that great GPS for a whole lot less money if I'd known the MP3 player and FM transmitter weren't worth paying extra for.

Great product. My first GPS, decided to get one after using my brother's older Garmin Nuvi. Does everything I need and more. Settled on it after reading reviews on dozens of GPS products. Paired easily with my cell phone, address book was right there to use. First use was driving to and from Laughlin NV from Yuma AZ and it worked perfectly. Great price at Amazon.com, the reviews on it were spot on. If you're shopping for one, or want to upgrade, can't go wrong with the item or with Amazon's price. Enjoy!
