4 out of 5 stars Excellent unit with out-of-date map version   June 21, 2008
The Garmin 750 works very well in places where my Garmin C320 will not work at all (in particular, in a Toyota Highlander Hybrid, whose electronic environment confuses the earlier Garmin unit).

I downloaded current firmware for the unit from the Garmin support site, and have had no trouble whatever with signal aquisition and strength, both of which are outstanding compared with earlier GPS units I have used.

Unfortunately, the unit arrived with Garmin's 2008 mapset. While this would seem current in June of 2008, Garmin, like many periodical publishers, dates its mapsets in advance. The current Garmin mapset is the 2009 version, which Garmin's registration site helpfully offered to sell me for only $70 or so.

Annual versions of roadmaps are out-of-date the moment they are released, so to receive a new unit with an immediate offer to update it to current status at extra cost is puzzling. Fortunately, Amazon has now issued me credit for the new version.

If you want an excellent GPS unit, and are willing to pay extra for a current mapset, the Garmin 750 is a good choice.

4 out of 5 stars 750 Garmin A NEW ADVENTURE   June 21, 2008
More than expected with all the MENU options. Being portable, I am using it in a friends car for a trip today. All those street that I pass now have names and it gives me a better perspective as a Realtor. I recommend it! Claire

4 out of 5 stars Garmin Nuvi 750 GPS   June 18, 2008
I'm very pleased with the GPS and its performance. I was disappointed that the box did not contain a carrying case which is a must have when you put it away. Not having a fold out antenna is a good thing. I have tried to buy an additional mount (not a suction cup, but the clip that the GPS attaches to) and they are hard to locate. Screen size is perfect and no problems with seeing the images in sunlight.

Overall, I give this product an 8 on a 1-10 scale. It is easy to use, but lacks features which I had on my five year old Lowrance. It does NOT display altitude, or destination.
In fact, you have no control over what is displayed on the map screen except for zooming in or out. This is a step backward in technology inasmuch that five or more years ago, you had choices to display many items, including the screen's text size, on the map screen. The Nuvi 750 gives you none. On the plus side, it is intuitively easy to navigate after a fairly short learning curve for which icon produces which screens. Size-wise, it is a great improvement over the old models, and is much easier to mount and dismount.

The Garmin Nuvi 750 is a great deal at Amazon.com. This is my first GPS but I did a lot of research and price comparison before purchasing the Nuvi and so far I am very happy with it. The design is sleek and works well with the window/dashboard mounts that are included in the package. The software is easy to use and quick to respond, which is great when you need to change via points or POIs in a hurry. To counter some observations from previous reviews, I have thus far experienced no difficulties with satellite acquisition. While traveling, the Garmin suggested a new route to me that was faster than the route I had been taking. I really like that there are different options for shortest time, shortest distance, off road, and detour routes. I was very impressed with the posted speed limit accuracy although there were a few places where the speed limit changed and the Garmin did not update. The Garmin did a great job getting me in and out of a bustling downtown area with one-way streets and a lot of traffic. Voice directions prompting the next turn were given in a timely manner and with accurate information about which lane to be in and what street to turn on.
I would recommend the Garmin Nuvi 750 for its quality and helpful new features, including "where am I?" and the last recorded location of your car when you park. I also like the pink trail that shows you where you've been, which some previous models do not offer. I have also found it helpful to be able to add and save routes -a relatively new feature in the Nuvi series- with via points along the way.
