No satellite problems here May 18, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've had the 750 for a little over a month now and have no problems getting quick satellite reception. I was hesitant about ordering the 750 with all the tales of woe (10+ minutes to get satellite or worse yet no reception at all). Mine usually boots up by the time I enter the address I want to go to. I've never had a GPS so I can't compare it to any others, but it does everything I need it to do. Some minor complaints are: some points of interest are so old its not even funny. They have one restaurant that has been closed since before my son was born. He is now 12. And the fact that it didn't come with a case and a good old fashioned manual is just shameful. Don't be nervous about your 750 purchase, it will do what you need it to do.
As a side note, I bought a pelican 1020 micro case and put in another layer of padding for the top and it works well. Its a little bulky, but I want my $300.00+ investment to last a long time.
The Best Item Ever Invented May 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We purchased this with the idea of driving the back roads of Alabama. It got us all around and made our trip north a lot less of a stress attack. It's the best thing ever invented. I would not hesitate to purchase another one. It gives you a choice to download books, songs and plug in your Mp3 player. I think Garmin is the best company ever. This was worth every penny and I'm still married after the trip!!!
Garmin Customer Service Sucks May 14, 2008 2 out of 9 found this review helpful
I don't normally write reviews; in fact this is my first one. I've been trying now for over a week to get the updated maps downloaded on my Nuvi 750. I've run into problem after problem w/ the download. I have called Garmin three times; yes it is true you get to talk to an actual person. Unfortunately that person has to transfer you to someone else to help you w/ your problem. I have had an average hold time of 30 minutes! This is unacceptable and it will most likely be my last Garmin product. All and all the product takes me where I want to go; which is why I gave it one star instead of none (if that's even possible). But the ease of use leaves A LOT to be desired.
Amazon Garmin Purchase May 13, 2008 Excellent! With Amazon it was priced right and sent quickly. I would buy again from Amazon.
Love it! May 12, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am an on-location photographer, so I spend a lot of time on the road to new places. Mapquest left me in the dust too many times and God forbid I miss a turn! The gps is a Godsend.
Pros - Love that it tells you which lane to be in for the next turn. Very helpful in the city. - It gives you plenty of warning for the next turn. On average, you are verbally reminded 3 times. - Haven't used the picture, file or MP3 features yet, but they sound good in theory! - Multi-destination routing - Can clearly hear directions UNLESS the windows are open on the highway and/or the radio is on fairly high. At 90-100% volume, there is some vibration noise though. - Quick and easy to enter addresses. - Turns on and off with ignition
Cons - The mount is useless to me. I ended up having to make my own mount so it could be on the dash. - Can sometimes come up with strange routes. - Have some trouble getting a satellite lock in cities as well as cloudy days. In Manhattan, I couldn't get a lock in pedestrian mode at all. Have also lost it under bridges too. - Don't care about the speed limits icon taking up space on the screen. - Would like to see the arrival time icon be able to toggle with how many miles are left on the trip. - No a/c adaptor.
All in all, I love having this gps!
