3 out of 5 stars A decent product   July 30, 2008
So far so good with this GPS. Battery doesn't last that long, I would say about 2-3 hrs. It does make you go an extra mile if you're not familiar with the place (then again why would you buy a GPS if you're going to use it in a place you know well). I tested this unit out in the city, and some of the direction it told me to take from point A to B was actually longer than the usual roads that I take. So I was kind of disappointed with that part. Other than that it's not a bad device.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good   July 30, 2008
The device works great. The only drawback is the car charger that is included in the kit is shoddily constructed. It fell apart after only a few uses.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible Product - Great Amazon/Beach Camera Return Service   July 29, 2008

The Magellan Maestro 4250 is a piece of junk. Every negative review that is out there is 100% correct, even though I desperately wanted them to be wrong. The power button might as well be a pull on a slot machine because you can NEVER get the thing to turn on when you want it. Then, when it does finally turn on, it takes FOREVER (15-30 min) to acquire a signal.

Another gripe is the power cord that has two cords on the end (mini usb for power and a headphone type jack for the traffic receiver). They are so ugly and awkwardly placed. The mini usb goes straight out, unlike the right angle ones that Garmin and TomTom offer.

One of the features I was looking forward to was the Bluetooth, but the speaker is SO weak that you can't hear the other person. When it is turned up all the way, it is VERY distorted and poppy. I was always forced to hang up the phone and call them back the old fashioned way.

The ONLY positives out of the whole experience were Beach Camera's customer service and fast return program/policy. After about a week and a half of the poor performance, I called them up and got my RMA. They said they would take it back without the restocking fee. I did have to pay for shipping, but it was worth it because I just wanted the thing gone.

1 out of 5 stars severely disappointing   July 28, 2008

The first day I used the magellan 4250, it worked great. However, the second day, it went brain dead, it would not turn on. I sent it back to Amazon and they sent another unit. This time, the unit worked for about 3 hours and then went dead. I am very disappointed in Magellan, why would anyone build a unit that does not work properly. Thank goodness for Amazon's easy return policy. I will now be buying either a Tom Tom or Garmin.

3 out of 5 stars Adapter failure   July 27, 2008

I've had my Magellan Maestro for about 3 months and have loved it. However, the cigarette lighter adapter stopped working quite suddenly and after charging it with another adapter to my pc, the battery only laster for a 20 minute trip and then died.
