5 out of 5 stars Great Product   October 24, 2008

This was my first purchase from Amazon as I am not usually an online shopper. After shopping big box retailers and seeing what was in the market, I decided to purchase my Magellan on Amazon, for it had the best rate. The GSP itself it great thus far. I used it on a road trip I had in Vermont, and I was NEVER lost. I also used it out in Long Island, NY and Upstate, NY so far. Bluetooth works great, multipoint directions work great and the POI's also great.

I would definitely suggest this over any Garmin product. My friend used her's in Boston a few weeks ago when travelling together and we were LOST the entire time.

5 out of 5 stars I LOVE this GPS!!   October 24, 2008

I think this GPS is terrific. The voice recognition is fantastic. The features are wonderful and work like a charm. I love being able to ask for Nearest Coffee or Nearest Gas. You can also easily detour your way around traffic accidents, or ask the GPS to reroute you using Fastest Time, Shortest Distance, Least Use of Freeways or Most Use of Freeways. Throw in the AAA interface, and it is absolutely fantastic unit. I also called the 800 number for customer service, and was connected right away to a very knowledgeable and friendly customer service rep. Every day I use it, it impresses me more and more with it's wonderful features. I think it highly outshines the Garmin models.

4 out of 5 stars speedy delivery   October 20, 2008
I bought my GPS a couple of months ago, I wanted time to actually test it out. I did a lot of research before I actually bought the item, and I decided this was the one for me. I got it for a great price and it steered me in the right direction from day one. I took it for my first long distance trip back in July and I couldn't ask for more. There was a group of us that went in 4 different cars and my vehicle was the only one that didn't get lost. the company that shipped it to me, did great. my GPS was in perfect condition and shipped it before the date estimated. thank you.

1 out of 5 stars A great idea... that just fell really really short   October 16, 2008

UPDATE (Read below for first post): I have sent my GPS to Magellan, they received it on October 24. It is now November 13, and still nothing. I have called them 3 times and the first 2 times they told me it was in "final stage of testing, ready to ship". On the 3rd call they told me it had shipped and provided me with a tracking number: it was a tracking number from somebody else showing it as delivered 2 weeks earlier. At this point, they are "researching" the status of my GPS, which in simple terms means: they have no idea where it is. I've been promised a call back but of course nobody has called.

Be aware that this GPS out of the box is great BUT if you try updating it you are risking to loose it for good, if you can live with that go for it. The Magellan update process is completely botched, cumbersome (for map update you get one 20 digits number in the box, which you must enter on the site, along with the serial number of your gps and only then will they give you a third number which is the real number, another case of DRM gone crazy). The update application feels and behaves like something some high school kids put together. On top of it I just bought a map update and I'm now holding a piece of electronic with a screen that just says Magellan: it's dead. During the update "an error occurred" and basically killed the GPS. The "reset" button doesn't do anything and I'm told I need to ship it back to the factory for repair. Calling their "engineers" is another joke: these guys don't know anything besides making you push the reset button over and over then telling you it needs repair. There is no alternative. Buyer beware!

1 out of 5 stars Magellan not that good   October 15, 2008

I first got the software was out of date. The company was nice enough to send me updated software but made me pay more to get it. That bites...
The maps are not that good, my house is 4 years old and the street I live on is not even on the maps. Not happy in Texas.
