| Customer Reviews:
Will not turn on. March 6, 2008 I purchased this unit and had it for 2 days. When pushing the power button it would not turn on. I returned the next day and got another just like it. The 2nd one now will not turn on. I thought maybe where I bought it had a lot of bad ones. Reading these reviews tells me they all could have this defect. When it works I love it!
Disaapointed (so far). March 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the first GPS that I've owned and I'm sorry to say that I'm disappointed. This unit was received about three weeks ago for a trip to Myrtle Beach via Gettysburg, PA. We set the unit up for fastest route and here is what we observed on our trip:
While driving through Scranton, PA the unit told us to exit I-81 at I-84 & I-380 get on the ramp then re-enter I-81. Why do this rather than just staying on I-81 to begin with?
While driving on I-270 in Maryland, twice the unit told us to exit the highway and use the local traffic lanes instead of just staying in the through traffic lanes.
In Virginia, we exited I-95 at exit 158B for lunch only to get lost and have to ask for directions because the unit had the wrong address for the Boston Market we were trying to find.
While driving back and forth to work, I set the unit up for fastest Route and avoid toll roads. If I used the unit's directions, my 90 mile 1 hour drive turns into a 232 mile 4 hour drive!!! How can I trust this unit when I drive somewhere that I don't know? Additionally, the gas stations and places to eat are way out of date. Places that haven't existed for years are still there while some that have been around for years are missing, not to mention newer establishments. I've also noticed that the maps show roads that don't exist or have been permanently closed. The web site states that the maps in my unit are from 10/07 and are the latest, but the unit says that the base map is from 6/22/07 and the detailed map is from 8/24/07.
I also have concerns about the unit's reliability. Often while driving I'll see the unit go on battery while it is connected to power (the radar detector connected to the same outlet does not loose power), the unit will re-boot on occasion or lock up during it's initial boot and have to be power cycled.
lostnomore March 4, 2008 As a navigation device it is top notch. I am supremely impressed with the turn by turn and the ability to select on screen icons. However, the bluetooth phone features could have been better thought out. You have to enter an address for any phone number you want saved. Other than that I've been satisfied with the unit and enjoy knowing I can get where I need to go hassle free.
One of my best purchases this year March 3, 2008 This product had everything I needed and nothing I didn't need. I was looking for a product with maps of th US and Canada, and one that had the street name spoken so I would not have to always look at the monitor as I drove. Also, the bluetooth phone capabilities work better than I could have expected. I also did not want all the extra features that would just be more of a distaction, like an mp3 player. And even though it is a larger model it is still small enough to be kept out of sight when needed. This is a great product and i would definately recommend it.

Magellan Maestro 4250 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator We purchased this when the mount to our Magellan RoadMate 700 post wore out and couldn't be replaced. This Maestro is less accurate than the 700. Often the unit thinks the address is on the wrong side of the street, or it takes us to the wrong block. The calculated route will change once you start driving so reading the route in advance is useless. The route will spontaneously reroute and have you make turns that results in you going around in circles. Streets that were identified by our updated 700, do not show up on this Maestro. When spontaneous reroutes occur, there's a 30 second to 1 minute period when you have no route mapped -- very frustrating if you are driving since you don't know where to go. We contacted Magellan and were informed that the problems are supposed to be corrected in the firmware update which should be available in the second or third quarter of 2008. Until then there is nothing they can do. This is what they consider "customer service". That's a long time to have to live with a defective software product. If I had known this, I would not have purchased the unit and instead would have waited until they got the bugs worked out before buying it. Also, if you get a Magellan gps, you may want to purchase an extra mount as, at least in the case of our RoadMate 700, they redesigned the mount so that when ours wore out it could not be replaced making the unit essentially unusable.
