5 out of 5 stars Magellan Making Technology Great!   February 9, 2008

Excellent GPS unit with ability to download multiple destination points and optimize the travel sequence. Have heard that the customer support for the product is not very good, but haven't had to use it since I've owned it (two months). It should be updated with current information to the date of purchase as I have noticed that some Points of Interest (POI) are not located in the present memory and some streets are not located even though they've been in existence for more than 2 years. However, in my line of work (Real Estate) the assistance afforded me is time and cost saving and invaluable. My using this unit has caused at least 4 of my customers to purchase the exact same unit for themselves. Too bad I can't get a commission!!! Highly recommended - at least during this very short time period of ownership. Stay tuned!

5 out of 5 stars Best features for the $$$   February 9, 2008

I did a lot of research including hands on at local stores as well as on line. For the price the Magellan Maestro 4250 is the best. I have had no problems with it right out of the box.

After screening for the basics ( accuracy, basic features), my priorities were:
1. large screen
2. voice response
3. Street name announcement
4. POI's

I have been very pleased with all. Have not had problems some others have encountered. The on/off button is sensitive. You must firmly depress and hold for a few seconds. Doing this I have had no problems with the button functioning.

4 out of 5 stars Overall great GPS!   February 9, 2008
Here are the Pros and Cons:
Pros
*Thin and sleek & wider than the average GPS
*Very user friendly
*Let you plan out multiple stops
*Great "Points of Interest" so I can be anywhere and look for the nearest anything...for example...nearest McDonalds (fries rock!), even gas station
*Bluetooth Capability
*Voice Activated
*Lets me know what side my destination is on...whether it's on the left or right side of that road (that's great!)
*After around 5:20 p.m., the background changes to black & it looks really neat (yes, I'm a typical female!)

Cons
*Wish it would've gave me different voices to choose from instead of just the female voice
*Sometimes when voice activation is on, without saying "Magellan" which is the secret word, it'll ask you, "Say your command."
*Very few times it'll say that you've arrived when you either just passed your destination or not there yet but it doesn't happen often
*Even though it has bluetooth, the person on the other side of the phone sometimes can't hear you clearly but it's a pretty neat gadget when it's fine.

*****Overall, this is a great item and worth the money...would definitely recommend it to someone.*****

3 out of 5 stars Kind of OK   February 9, 2008
I bought the Magellan 4250 and was hoping for something more user friendly. Since we know shortcuts we take them, but the GPS takes us another way longer because of traffic issues. The touch screen has to be pressed really hard and multiple times to work. I will contact Megellan to see if the issues I have are typical.

3 out of 5 stars not what it seemed   February 9, 2008
4250 - Over all i really like it. Past the basics, the software is not intuitve. I had to work through several things. The support software/docs sent with the unit was not for the unit. After calling support on a couple of issues,(entering my own POI's)i was finally told that the email function was not going to work for quite some time. the software was not available yet. My 8800 Black berry works great thru the unit. Make sure you get the I.D. # written down the first time you call support! My Dad got a Navigon at the same time. He thinks it is great!
