5 out of 5 stars Great GPS for the Price   September 29, 2008
I purchased this GPS for a road trip to Baltimore recently. It was easy to use and worked extremely well--clear directions, good volume, sharp screen and good graphics. The only thing I wish it had was a "Traffic Alert" to tell you about bad traffic rather than just rerouting you all of a sudden until you realize minutes later, why.

Nonetheless, both the software set-up and traffic subscription were a breeze. No problems with Magellan support when I called them for additional info. I did my research before hand and this product suited my needs perfectly for the price I was willing to pay. Love the AAA roadside info--POIs, restaurants, ATMs, etc., very helpful. I definitely would recommend this product.

4 out of 5 stars Completely Satisfied   September 29, 2008
I purchased my GPS from Beach Camera, awesome jobs guys, it was here fast and works great. One thing to be careful of, do a search on any company when buying online first. I had made that mistake before dealing with Beach Camera, this other company promissed a low price, but then called me trying to have me add things like a newer map, they said their Magellan 4250 came with a 2004 map. The weird thing, is that line didn't come out until 2007, so why the three year old map???

3 out of 5 stars Good Unit Old Maps, Updates Cost   September 29, 2008
The unit is very nice and works good. The only negative is maps are already out of date and it cost to get update. The maps that came with my unit are 2007, Magellan has a 2008/2009 available but it cost.

4 out of 5 stars Good but Not Perfect   September 29, 2008
The Good: Lots of great features / overall value

The Bad: The speakers are in the back, the speech is often not loud enough and can be static-y.

The Ugly: The volume and dimmer controls are limited and difficult to use. The same quirks and limitations that afflict other GPS units.

I bought our Magellan 4250 two weeks ago to travel across the use and navigate around the DC area. It has been great for that. We have had a Garmin over 3 years. My wife likes its user interface better, and I like its mechanical volume control better. I am getting used to how this unit controls. It is different, but I think it is OK. The more I use it, the more I like it.

I got mine for $235. It not only provides great GPS directions (not perfect) with street names and addresses vocalized, it also provides hands free Bluetooth cell phone capability. It is loaded with great features at a reasonable price.

4 out of 5 stars Need more color options for route.   September 27, 2008

This is a pretty good unit but one major item lacking is the ability to choose the color of the background map and routing color. My son is colorblind and when the daytime screen is on and he programs a route, it can be difficult to see the route against the background. He said it is very close in color and in bright light sometimes he cannot see the route at all. Magellan should allow the owner to choose what color scheme to use for the background and route. I hope Magellan reads these reviews and will consider it for the next model or the next firmware upgrade.
