4 out of 5 stars Good text-to-speech, bad POI.   March 31, 2008

NO WAL-MARTS inthe POI-list! Do not buy this GPS if points of interest are important to you. Buy it if you want text-to-speech functionality and want customizability at a low price.

4 out of 5 stars Great for the price   March 28, 2008
I read all the reviews I could on units around the same price. I settled on the c230 based on all the positive reviews I read, After using it I have to agree with the positive things I read about it. I have a friend that has a $400 Garmin that I have seen in use. We went to a car dealer that neither of us had been to. It was a 75 mile trip from home on unfamiliar roads. We took both units. We used his to get us there and mine (the MIO c230)to get us home. We set both units to give us the fastest route. The Garmin took us on mostly 2 lane roads and the trip took 1-1/2 hours. Coming home we used the MIO and it took us on freeways and the trip took 1 hour. We checked the Garmin on the trip home and it wanted us to go the same slow way that it got us there. Based on this I made the correct choice. I also like the MIO text to speech better as it has a tone alert (if you choose to use it)to warn you of upcoming
instructions. It also seemed to warn you of exit ramps sooner that the Garmin. As you can tell I am very happy with this purchase. As always I bought it on Amazon because of the return policy.

3 out of 5 stars GPS REVIEW   March 15, 2008

IT ARRIVED WITH ALL PARTS UNDAMAGED. IT NEEDS TO BE CHARGED BEFORE PUTTING IT THRIUGH THE SET UP ECT. IF YOU ARE TEC-SAVEY YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM WORKING THIS GPS. IF YOU ARE TEC-CHLANGED YOU WILL NEED HELP FROM YOUR CHILD OR GRANDCHILD TO HELP YOU WITH ALL TYHE ICONS. IT IS A GOOD , NO BELLS AND EXTRIAS , UNIT IF YOU WANT A GPS ONLY THIS IS A VERY GOOD ONE TO HAVE. GOOD GPS BAD SELLER!!!!!
i WILL NEVER BUY FROM AMOZON.COM AGAIN, HOWEVER. THEY USE INTRAPMENT WHEN YOU PLACE AND ORDER YOU CAN MAKE NO CHANGES AFTER IT GOES TO SHIPPING. i HAD A GIFT CARD I WANTED TO USE TO BUY THIS ITEM , IT WAS NOT VERY CLERA WHEN AND WHERE TO ENTER THE CARD # SO I DIDN'T GET IT IN ONT THE ORDER . I WENT IN RIGHT THEN TO MY ACCOUNT AND TO CUSTERMOR SERVICE , BOTH SAID IT HAD GONE TO SHIPPING AND COULD NOT BE CHANGED ALL IN LESS THAN 3 MIN. NOT CUSTERMOR FRINDLY !!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great unit for price with unbeatable features   March 10, 2008
Bought this unit from Amazon last week. I live in Canada and unfortunately this unit (when bought from Amazon.com) only has USA maps. Thankfully - the license included with this unit is for North America Maps (2007.01) so you are able to legally put Canada maps on a SD card (not included) and you are good to go.

You will be hard pressed to find a GPS unit at this price point that also includes both Text-to-Speech and a touchscreen. These two features are MUST haves when you look to buy a GPS unit.

I agree with what others have said - the amount of POI is pretty disappointing (the unit comes with a built-in 1 GB flash card, and is packed full with only ~5MB free, hence the lack of POI). If they had included more built-in memory it would have been possible to include more POI's...BUT you are able to save your own POI so it's not a big deal, I have already added quite a few with no slow down or lag, so quite happy.

4 out of 5 stars Affordable TTS ...I rather have a garmin 340   March 8, 2008

This product is a a basic TTS GPS. I have been using it for a month now It takes a while getting used to the menu. I did not read the manual.

CONS: Limits you to 2 favorite destinations but can access other destination via history.
Very low battery life. Last about 2 hrs. I have it hard wired to my electrical.
POI is low. It did not list a well known restaurant in my area.
No Blue tooth.

PROS: Affordable.
TTS
Expandable POI via SD card.
Has a great auto dimming for night time use. I'm on the road 4 hrs of the day.
Portable.

This unit has not locked up nor has failed me. It does sometimes take me to a longer route.

Been using it daily as I'm new to the area.
